I Need My Best Friend – Part 5

    ‘I saw Foxworthy yesterday.’

    ‘How much fun was that?’

‘Well he thinks I’m hiding from my feelings.’

    ‘Are you?’

‘Well, I did leave instead of talking earlier and I wasn’t really upfront with you last night.’

‘That doesn’t mean you’re hiding.  Maybe you just “needed a moment.”  What about last night?’

‘I wasn’t suspicious of you I was jealous that you weren’t dressed like that for me.  I know we’re trying to do this as friends but I was really confused by my feelings.  Seeing the way you’re trying to change makes me hopeful.  You were so beautiful last night and then seeing you this morning I just’

    ‘Needed a moment?’

    ‘Yeah, needed a moment.’

‘Tina, in all honesty I know we’re trying to do this whole friendship thing and I’m 100% on board with that.  But, I’m in love with you and I have two objectives here.  One, to work through all the things that allowed me to be reckless enough to risk losing you, two, to do everything I can to get you to fall in love with me again.  I know we have a lot to work through but we can’t ignore that we are actually more than just two friends helping each other get through a break up.  There are going to be times when we look at each other and see more than a friend.  I don’t think it would be healthy to suppress those feelings.  We need to talk through things as they come up but still rely on our friendship to help us through this.’

    ‘I still love you Bette.’

‘I know you do.  No matter what happens we will always love each other.  But I want you to be in love with me.  I think we both let that slip away.’

‘I stopped trying to get you to talk; it was always so difficult for you.  You seemed to prefer not talking.’

‘I’m sorry I didn’t make more of an effort.  We were so connected physically I thought that would be enough.’

‘Then that started to fade; I thought having a baby would bring us back together.  I knew we still loved each other or at least I thought we did.’

‘We just took the easy way out.  At least I did.  Avoidance has always been easier for me than confrontation.’

‘We didn’t have to let things get confrontational.  That was probably more my fault than yours.  I would wait until I couldn’t take it anymore then I would lash out.’

‘I don’t think we need to get into blame, we’ll still be here this time next week!’

‘All right.  No more blame.  We’ll agree we were equally at fault for not taking care of our relationship and try to stay focused on the issues not the blame.  Agreed?’

‘With one exception, one non-negotiable exception, I take the responsibility for cheating on you.  I had other options.  When we get to that conversation there’ll be no more what if’s.’

    ‘Okay.  Now  I’m starving.’

‘How about pizza and a movie?  Unless you have plans?’

‘Sounds nice, but no more heavy conversation.’

‘Just two friends, pizza and a movie.’

    1. Good job! It’s nice to see both growing up… especially Bette. I love this scenario.. the middle ground compare to the rest of the series, not that the other series aren’t possible scenarios. I think this one is still not ignoring the fact that the cheating had happened but still not hysterically dramatic. It’s good. I love it. Good job!

    2. This was an excellent read! I think honest communication is the essence of all relationships and Bette & and Tina are doing just that..and you, asalways, are doing a wonderful job telling it..thanks!

    3. I have been waiting for another installment and it didn’t disappoint. Love the direction you are going in. Please keep up the good work.

    4. I am enjoying this story,I am aware that there is another one up right now fielding the same time and how they are adapting to the seperation. The other one is more Harsh with Tina with her attitude and Bette just coming off a pity party. Yours is more in the middle and it is much softer for Tina and Bette. I don’t believe Tina would of gotten in to a relationship that quickly after the seperation, and I don’t think that bette would of fallen that low, just not her style. For Bette to have a one night thing at there house is not believeable either. I believe that Bette would have much more respect for Tina to do that, and to invite some one to dinner for the chance of things to esculate. So I like yours Better more to my thoughts. Thanks
