    the Going Away Party


    One of the things Alice did incredibly well in life was possibly avoid situations she really did not want to be in and today she wanted to avoid missing Dana. Alice knew that she only had 3 days left to plan a going away party for Dana, and so she was going to drown herself in planning the party. Dana would understand her behavior that way, since Alice was always the type to go all or nothing into things.

    However, Dana got scared. It was the day after they had spoke and it was nearly 6 in the evening, and she had not seen Alice once. When she woke up, Alice was already gone, she was left with nothing but a small not stating she had gone to plan the party. At first that was fine, and then it became 1 in the afternoon which was the usual time for Alice to get her coffee at the Planet, Dana waited and waited, until finally it hit 6 o’clock and no Alice.

    Dana sat there fiddling with her lemon water thinking to herself, ” where the ***** is Alice?”

    Alice was back at the house watching her cell phone as it rang and rang over and over again with Dana’s picture continuously popping up. Alice knew she should answer the phone, but it was too hard. She needed some time to think about things, to be alone so she could get used to the feeling. After all she would be alone for a whole year plus some more months. Was she really going to be able to handle that? Suddenly she was shaken out of her daze by the buzzer.

    Alice walked over to the door as she smoothed out her clothes so she wouldn’t look too bad for Dana, but as she opened the door she noticed someone else there, ” Shane what are you doing here? I thought you were Dana”.

    Shane smiled and walked through, ” Dana’s at the Planet where YOU should be right now. Carmen said she’s been there since 1 waiting for you”.

    Alice sighed and walked back over to the couch, ” I don’t know if I can do this Shane. I mean I know I said I could but nowI’m not so sure.”

    6. I just love this story, it´s sweet, heartbreaking and I really feel for Alice. Hopefully she´ll accept the proposal and they´ll be able to manage being apart for a great deal of time.
