Mel answers.  “Dave I think there’s more to it. You’re right about Terri wanting revenge against Bette, but I don’t think this was her idea.  I think she just fell into the situation.  She saw an opportunity to get back at Bette in the deal.  Dave where do we stand with Terri?  Is she in custody?”

Dave replies, “When our detectives went over to her apartment she was already gone. Terri didn’t show up for work the last two days, and no one has seen her around the apartment building since.  My guess is she’s laying low for a while.  She’s probably at her boyfriend’s apartment?”

Mel is thinking.  “Let’s not apprehend Terri just yet.  But still keep the surveillance on her apartment.  I hoping Terri will try to contact Bette and see her.  Then at that time we can take her into custody.  We can bait her with Bette.”  (Dave is looking at him with a serious face.)  I know Tina won’t like us using Bette.  But we’ll have her security guy hiding in Bette’s office.”

Mel lists what evidence he’s gathered so far.  “I spoke with Jamie again, the E.R. nurse.  She’s the one who spoke to the man who was asking questions about Bette.  Let’s see, here’s his description:  His name is Tom. He’s White, about 35 years old, light brown hair with gray, peppered throughout.  He has blue eyes, and has a slim build and is about 6’1” tall.

Jamie called this morning with new information.  She remembered seeing Tom in the parking lot after he asked her about Bette.  Jamie was on her way to her car.  Tom didn’t see her, but Jamie remembers he was texting someone on his cell phone.  She heard him say out loud,  “You almost killed her” as he was texting the words into his phone.  He closed his cell phone when he finished texting his message, and said out loud,  “She is a heartless cunt.”

Mel is thinking for a moment.  “You know Dave, Terri and Tom are peripheral participants in this.   They’re just following orders.  Plus someone in the hospital is working with them now.  Lets split this up.  Why don’t you check on Bette’s previous relationships?  Basically we’re just interested in the serious ones, if she had any, and you know any bad break ups.  Dave why don’t start with Bette’s sister.”  (Dave has a big grin on his face.)  Mel looks up for a response from Dave and sees the big grin.  Mel continues, “Dave why don’t you invite Kit out to dinner?  That way you can kill two birds with one stone.”  (Dave looks surprised.)  “Mel I don’t know what you’re talking about?”   With a raised eyebrow Mel continues,  “Dave you’ve mentioned Kit’s name at least five times today.  Go for it you’re both single.  Just don’t do anything until the case is solved.”  Dave answers, “Sure Mel what ever you say.  In fact, I’m going to call her right now and make the date.  I mean set a side a time to talk to her.”  (Mel shakes his head)  “Dave you’re already a goner!”
