“Honey, I would never stop you from dating someone else. I do like being with you but if you find a guy who isn’t willing to share your time with someone else then I guess that I will have to let you go. If he is what you want.”
“Thanks Eric. I’m sure it easier to say than to do. You know… letting go.” as she picks up the brochure to the Bette Porter Gallery that was laying on her kitchen counter. She stares at Bette’s name in bold print.
“I’m sure that I’ll be quite jealous watching the one that got away on another’s man’s arm. But I‘ll deal with it, you‘re a good woman Tina”.
‘But it’s not a man’ Tina thinks to herself ‘ he is going to a have a much harder time than he thinks, the male ego is so fucking fragile.’ running her fingers over Bette’s printed name.
“Tina, why didn’t you date anybody else besides me? You’re one hot lady, I’m sure that you have had plenty of offers over the last year.”
“Yes, I’ve had plenty of offers, but there is just something in me right now that strongly believes in being loyal to just one person. Maybe it has to do with my family. My mom and dad have be together forever. Monogamy is all I knew growing up. I’m loyal because that’s what I ultimately want in a partner.”
“I don’t want to make this hard for you but you know that isn’t who I am and probably never will be. I like you and respect you but it’s not like that for me. You know monogamy isn’t a male thing in my book“.
“I know Eric, I know.”
“So what do you want to do, about us I mean?”
“I think that we should call it quits before somebody’s feelings get hurt.” she says, glad the Eric had given her an easy out.
“If that’s what you really want. Tina is that what you want?” Eric asks.
‘I wonder who he is?’ Eric thought
“Yes, it’s what I want, …..yeah that‘s what I want”.
“Are you going to be okay?”
“I sure am. How about you?”
“I’ll be fine knowing that you’ll be ok”.
