    Interesting Curves 6 (formerly Untitled)

The clients didn’t leave for close to an hour. They did buy two paintings, which meant that Bette could claim a nice commission for the day. They also kept her wondering exactly what was up with Tina.

Tina had called. According to Alice, she sounded upset.

“I’ll be in my office,” Bette announced to Alice. She rushed down the hallway, shutting herself in the room.

Tapping a pen against her desk, Bette counted the rings, waiting for the answer.

When the phone answered, it went into a quick “hi, we’re not here…”

A portion of the message, the ‘we’ part, gave Bette pause. But she knew it was not unusual for single women to not advertise that fact. Still…

The beep sounded, and Bette started her message. “Tina, Alice said that you called. This is Bette. You…”

“Bette?” The voice cut into the message.

“Tina, are you okay? Alice was worried.”

“I told her you didn’t have to call.”

“Tina,” Bette sounded more firm this time. “Are you okay?”

    “I shouldn’t have bothered you.”

    “Did something happen, Tina?”

“Eric and I talked. He’s gone.”

    “Gone?”

    “He’s gone home.”

“Oh.” Bette frowned. That was not the change that she was hoping in the relationship between Tina and Eric.

“He’s gone home,” Tina started again, “because we’ve broken up.”

“Oh.” This news came as an interesting turn. “Are you okay with this?”

    “It was my idea.”

     “And then you called me.”

“I know we barely know each other, but I wanted someone to talk to. I thought of you.”

“I’m glad you thought of me.”

“Really?” Tina was beginning to sound a little more relaxed.

    “Really.” Bette confirmed.

“So, you called.” Bette couldn’t help but smile knowing that she was the one that Tina turned to.

    “I did.”

“Did you, uh, want something in particular?”

    “Well, it’s a favor?”

“I think I might be able to manage a favor.”

“Could you, uh…” Tina paused in her thought.

    “Maybe…” Bette interjected.

The sound of Tina’s laughter came through the phone. For Bette, that was the best sound that she had heard all day.

    1. I like the title. Thank God Tina told Eric no to his proposal. Hope to see Tibette get to explore just a little more of their feelings.Know what I mean.

    2. i’m sorry it took so long to unsilent myself. i have loved all of your stories and this one is no exception. i’ll take whatever bone you’ll toss us. and please, god,let they be plentiful and soon!! lol. seriously though, you’re are an awesone writer. pps

    3. OK pseud you had me a little worried there….I almost thought that Tina was going to tell Bette that she accepted Erics proposal, but then thought….no Pseud would so not do that to them. And I was very pleased to see that I was right by thinking the latter!! Like the title btw wiating for the next brilliant chapter of yours. Thx

    4. Well this is definitely an interesting curve – excellent title by the way. No more Eric, Bette on the way, and an upset Tina. This has all the earmarks of an interesting afternoon. You certainly MUST give us more!

    5. Jesus, who’s almost (almost?) as needy as Alice? Pseud, that’s who! (more!) Good for poor, dumped Alice getting beyond herself to act like an adult and a friend. And Bette is positively gushing like a schoolgirl, hanging on the line until Tina hangs up. Pseud, do you think you could give us an NC-17 once B&T get past the courting stage and get on to the making of sparks? Congrats on the new title-just as long as you’re not schilling for that chain of girls only gyms.
