Just The Girl 2.0 – Chapter Twenty Three (based loosely on HYD: Returns)

    “That dream again.. fuck..”

She forced her eyes closed, ordered herself to lie back down on her bed and buried her head on a pillow. Focusing her strength into reaching some sort of tranquil state, she took deep calming breaths and let her tense muscles relax, allowing her heart rate to go back down to a less alarming pace. Her rigid muscles began to loosen up after a few moments, but sadly, the same cannot be said for her head. Unable to control her thoughts, her mind had flown back to her dream, recalling and replaying moments like a broken video player stuck on loop. She knew what brought this dream on and silently cursed her own mind for making herself vulnerable to it. The past few days had been spent stressing about her problems – personal and otherwise. And now it seems, the things that troubled her in her waking hours were also beginning to haunt her dreams. After finding out the truth behind his death, she told Tina and Sam during dinner yesterday that she had now placed Eric Walker behind her; he was the past, incapable of haunting her present and future. The two were exceptionally happy for her and applauded her resolve, yet sadly, she had gone back to previous misdeeds and lied. For all her posturing and big speeches, Bette still had a foot stuck in the doorway, preventing that sordid chapter of her life to be closed completely. Truth of the matter was, that for her, it wasn’t entirely over. Well.. not until she settled some unfinished business with the dead man’s wife – or more specifically, his widow.

Undeniably, that was the source of her present dilemma.

Bette glanced towards her side and stared at the red numbers on the digital clock on her night stand. Thanks to her not-so-pleasant dream, she was wide awake at 1:27 AM on a Tuesday. She let out a deep breath at the thought. Tuesday, just a few more days to go till judgment day. On Friday morning, she was flying to Aspen with her father to finalize the deal with the Grishams. It was supposed to happen at one of the historic grand function rooms of the The Porter Regency Hotel in Manhattan, but a request from William’s camp last night made the PGC’s planning team scrap that idea and transfer all activities to one of the company’s famed resorts high up in the snowy mountains of Aspen. Apparently, the homey inn that The Porter Regency was running in that place held special memories for certain members of the Grisham family – and to hold the signing there would make the impending partnership between the PGC and Genesis all the more special. The last minute change in plans piqued the curiosity of the two Porters at first, but they voiced no questions nor objections. Nevermind the change in venue, like all businessmen, they were just happy they had agreed on terms in the first place.

    1. you made it so very worth the wait!and you gave a lovely blend of humor and drama surrounding Bette’s dilemma…no surprise that there is alot of gold inside that heart, but thank you for taking us on the journeyto Bette’s maturing!! And special thoughts for “…” still my favorites!!

    2. Yes it’s been a long time coming. But thanks for the chapter. I loved how Bette was finally about to work through her feeling and open up to Tina. She has grown. And I am glad that Tina chose to support her and not be selfish. That has to be a hard place to be when you sense someone is wanting your partner. Tina will has to gain own sense of self confidence to have peace about the situation.

    3. With the beautiful story, it is wroth the wait:) so glad Bette decided to stay by Jill & Tina supported her decision, pls post soon cos I can’t wait for the Snow, friends, love and saving.

    4. like i said before missed your story thank you for the update.you have to love tina.whenyou love someone with your whole heart you will do anything for them.tina has the biggest heart of them all.like thy say love will concer all.pps

    5. Tks for the update, I can’t say that I’m not worried about how Jill will effect their relationship. You are right though, Bette has matured and grown as a human being and she couldn’t do that to Jill. I only hope that she is also wise enough to eventually see that Jill is in love with her and they will eventually end their “friendship” it’s hard to stay friends when the one you love knows how you feel and they don’t feel the same. Can’t wait for another update!!!!

    6. Bette is more preoccupied with Jill’s feelings not of what It Jingles, and that hurts very much for Vat, I sinceramento wait that that is not going to give any more problems predict. So I am thinking what Jill’s father only is going to Carry out the contract in exchange for something more. Is it and Now It and Now It Has????? I hate drama please a little of novel, Bette is very distant of Vat.

    7. thank you for posting. i am constantly checking for updates from you. i love this story. bette made the right decision, hopefully tina will see past her insecurities and see bette only loves her.

    8. Yay…you’re back! I’m so behind in my fanfic reading, hence the late comment. Our little Bette is growing up for sure. I can’t believe this story is going to end soon. Sequel to the sequel…..maybe…possibly…pretty please?

    9. You’re back! I am so happy to see your chapter. I’m glad Bette did the right thing and I’m so proud of Tina. It was equally hard for the two of them. Thanks for the post!

    10. i have missed this… and i loved it… i know tina wouldn’t just run at the end… because she knows its true love… please don;t end this story… or at least tell us there will be part 3… lol…please…pps

    11. Thank you so much for posting this. Welcome back. I was crying like a baby. Both of our girls did a big step forward and outdid themselves. I can’ t wait for the next one.

    12. ALCHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I read this earlier but didn’t have time to comment because I was supposed to be somewhere at that time. But I made the fatal mistake of checking in since I had five minutes to kill. I totally screwed myself and was an hour late, oh well no harm done, and they still love me. Thanks so much for posting been a long time, but well worth the wait. I was laughing my ass off from the hair thing and people kept asking me what was so funny because I kept picturing Bette as Amy Winehouse. I hope Tina has a change of heart toward Jill, I actually like the poor girl, and it’s your fault alchy. I just hope Jill can move on from there. Thanks for the post alchy, awesome.
