Just The Girl – Chapter Twenty Eight (a HYD-inspired fic)

“Should we line up and get our food?” Tina asked as she looked at the different buffet tables scattered around the garden. She was quite famished and in the mood for some proper sustenance.

Bette smiled and shook her head to the side. “Those are for the other guests. The servers will bring our food to us.” She waved a hand towards one of the organizers and gave him the go-signal. A few minutes later, a procession consisting of seven waiters walked around their table and stopped behind each girl. At exactly the same time and in one swift motion, they placed the dishes on the table and lifted the covers from the plates.

As the other girls began to dig in, Tina stared at her food with her mouth agape and her eyes bulging out.

“Like what you see?” Bette smiled impishly, watching Tina’s reaction. There, in between a few pieces of gourmet lamb, a salad, pasta and chicken.. lay a juicy hamburger overloaded with tomatoes and lettuce. Just the way a certain blonde liked it. Needless to say, it would have stood out even if it wasn’t placed on the middle of the plate.

“Did you..?” Tina pointed to the hamburger and looked at Bette in amusement. The brunette smiled and shrugged her shoulders in response. “But you hate them..” She furrowed her brows as she looked at Bette questioningly.

“Yeah.” Bette cut a small piece from her chicken and glanced sideways at Tina. “But you love them.” She smiled as she brought her food to her lips.

Tina shook her head in amusement as she too began to dig in. “You never cease to amaze me Porter. It’s your birthday but I’m the one who got surprised.” She mumbled, sharing a small smile with the brunette.

“Oh goody it’s Paul van Dyk!” Alice clapped excitedly as the DJ walked up the stage that was set up at the side of the huge pergola. She jumped up from her seat and pulled a reluctant Shane to her feet. “Dance dance dance!” She whooped excitedly as she tried to pull the thin brunette towards the stage.

“You wanna?” Shane stood her ground as she looked back at Jenny. She wasn’t going to leave the poor girl alone with the couples. That would be just mean.
