Just The Girl – Chapter Twenty Eight (a HYD-inspired fic)
“Oh no. No no no no.” Tina shook her head vigorously to the side. She eyed the table overflowing with huge, expensive gifts in the distance and grimaced.
“You got me a gift..” Bette smiled in a goofy manner when she finally took notice of the box in the blonde’s hand.
“No!” Tina shouted quickly, hiding her pathetic looking gift behind her back. Oh God, she groaned, she was starting to have second thoughts about giving Bette her crappy present.
“Gimme..” Bette frowned, reaching for the present behind Tina’s back. “I want to see..” She whined as Tina angled her body away from her.
“No way Porter.” Tina said through gritted teeth as she danced around to avoid the brunette’s hands. She saw Bette about to lunge in and instinctively stomped on the brunette’s foot with her right heel.
“Owwwwww!” Bette hollered in pain. The guests standing nearby all looked towards them with interest. “We’re not even dancing yet and you’ve stepped on me already.” Her lips quivered as she crouched down and rubbed her throbbing foot.
“Sorry..” Tina mumbled sheepishly as she helped the brunette up to her feet. “I’ll give it to you later, I promise.” She whispered to Bette’s ear. “When we’re alone.” She added as the brunette lifted an eyebrow. She wanted to be there when Bette opened her gift. Not only did she want to see the brunette’s reaction, she wanted a chance to explain some things regarding it as well.
“I’ll hold on to that promise.” Bette warned as she took Tina’s free hand into her own and led the blonde towards the main pergola where her friends were. Jenny shook her head at James and laughed before following the two in front of her.

“Well look who’s finally graced us with her presence!” Alice screamed at the top of her lungs when Tina walked towards them hand in hand with Bette. The other occupants of the table turned their heads and smiled. Alice lifted an eyebrow as she noticed a small brunette behind the two. She seemed vaguely familiar.
“Hey Jen!” Shane gave a small wave to the girl and pointed at the empty seat beside her.

I love your story! I love how Bette told Melvin that “Tina was the most important person in her life” and in front of everyone it was so sweet. I can’t wait for another chapter! PPS!
I am really enjoying this story. I like howyou have made Bette’s character grow.Of course, it’s always enjoyable seeing Melvin get put in his place. I wonder what other present Tina has in store for Bette? Will she really be staying over at Jenny’s tonight???? pps
My goodness…Bette jumped into the frying pan with both feet. She shared her feelings with Tina as well as her friends and stood up to her father in public. Can’t wait for more!!!!
That was awesome Bette, you go girl. Now let see B&T have fun on the party. Please post more, thanks!
I am so lovin’ every moment of this story. I admire Bette’s courage to take her Father down a peg by claiming her love for Tina publicly.
Very cool Porter-I am glad that she stood up to her father. I love how Tina’s father wanted her to wear a trenchcoat over her dress-I could almost picture it. Very funny. Great job!!!
