Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 26A

Suarez listened to the taxi driver, but thought it was a good sign for Stephanie that she had said that.  It hadn’t occurred to Stephanie that the police might be looking for a deceased baby.

“I see,” he said into the phone.  “And what did she have with her?”  He stared at Stephanie as he listened and his impassive expression became brighter.  “Okay, thank you very much.  Thank you, sir.”  He closed his cell and pressed the button on the walkie-talkie attached to his shoulder loop.  “Clear?  We’ve got new information.  Let’s move out.”

Stephanie heard the men running down the stairs and saw the officers rush inside from their search of the guesthouse/shed and into the kitchen.  They stood behind Suarez and waited for additional orders.

    “Now what?”  Stephanie asked.

“We’re going over to the 6800 block of Santa Monica.”

“Why?” she asked, blinking her eyes to suggest befuddlement.

Suarez didn’t fall for it.  “You’ll want to bring that key of yours.”

“What key?  What are you talking about?”

Suarez began to usher Stephanie out of the kitchen toward the front.  “The cab driver told me you count your pennies.  If we break the lock on your storage unit, Public Storage will charge you.”  He suggested, “You’ll want to just open it up for us.”

The detective got on his walkie-talkie again and gave an update.  This time he contacted his station and Vogel on the same frequency.  “. . . and we need to get a car down to the 6800 block of Santa Monica to the Public Storage.  The suspect has a storage unit there.  Have ‘em get the unit number from the manager and wait for us.  It’s either under Stephanie Kennard or Theresa Kennard.”

Suarez ended his conversation and looked at her.  “Do you have the key?”

The keys were still in her pocket, but she wanted her cell phone and purse.  “Upstairs, in my purse.”

“Go get it.  You have twenty seconds, so move.”

Stephanie ran up the stairs and grabbed the cell phone off the night stand and picked up her purse that was on the dresser.  She ran back down and looked at Suarez and said, “You know this is just unbelievable bullshit.”

“Who are you tellin’?  I’m knee deep in it every day.”

    “Am I under arrest?”

    1. ” I am so sorry for the long wait,…” – Well, they say ‘good things come to those who wait’, and that was certainly true in this case. Welcome Back, P!

    3. Well, I was gonna turn in to bed when I had this thought to sneak back on to my notebook to look for new posts and look what I found. Now I have something to wake up to later! Thank you!

    4. Again, an amazing story that we should have seen on the tv instead of the actual IC version. You are amazing, your writing is amazing. I would wait more that 4months for you to post, as long as you continue to give us more I would wait forever. I will be sitting on the edge of my seat until Saturday…and to think there is more to come, thank goodness. You have an amazing talent, I can only hope that you are in fact in the industry and are sharing this talent with a wider audience. And please don’t let anything happen to little Angelica. Thankyou very much for posting!!!

    5. I’m really glad you are back. Missed this story. I hope Bette can get Angie back. And I also hope with all that drama that Bette and Tina will in the futher have their life to normal back. And live happyly a long life together. It’s also time to get Stephanie out of the picture. Send her in a padded cell. Can’t wait of Saturday, when you post again.

    6. I love Peggy, sweeping in with her jet :). This was so worth the wait, but please don’t make us wait again to see what happens to Angelica. I’d almost feel bad for Stephanie if she weren’t so evil. At least Henry is starting to realize what he’s getting into. Also, I’m very concerned about Tina. Has she taken her meds yet? Thanks Portia, you never disappoint.
