    Author Notes:

    The gang share good conversation, some laughs, and a party. There are the meeting of minds and other connections–Bette and Tina go to their “happy place,” so do Shane and Carmen. Alice and Dana make some plans. Stephanie is a fish out of water.

     

    Tina fell forward on top of Bette who dropped to the bed.  Their bodies were sweaty and they’d need another shower, but for now, they just needed rest.  For long moments, neither woman moved.  Tina slowly lifted; the dildo slipping from inside her. 

     

    She lay next to Bette.  “You’re quite the sight,” Tina laughed at Bette whose eyes were barely opened.

     

    “Thank God you’re the only one who gets to see me like this.”

     

    Bette and Tina had never mentioned it to their friends, even when the gang had spirited conversations about sex toys and what they’d tried, what they liked and hated.  Tina and Bette always remained on the outside of those talks.  They never contributed, although Alice often attempted to give away some of her past sexual secrets with Bette.  Tina and Bette laughed at the others when they had these discussions, but offered no opinion either way.  Bette knew that Alice and probably Shane would see only the most primal, most animalistic aspect of this particular object and not its true intent. 

     

    Tina and Bette connected on many levels and sexually in a variety of ways.  After their trip to Nepal when they had explored sex in a different way, they had returned to LA with open minds.  The Lesbian News had an advertisement for a tantric sex class for lesbians that was being given in Santa Barbara.  They had made the two hour drive north for the three day seminar and learned a lot about intimacy, breathing, touching, embracing their yoni, and the use of sexual aids.  They had purchased what was now still inside Bette at the seminar.

     

    “God.”

     

    “That was nice.  Really nice,” Tina said.

     

    Bette gave Tina a sidelong glance and laughed, feeling the dildo move inside her when she did.  Tina had a way with understatement.

     

    Reaching between Bette’s legs, Tina started to remove it.  She had taken out about three inches, but surprised Bette when she pushed in again.  Bette’s eyes popped open.  “Tee?” 

     

    Tina pulled out again and thrust in just as quickly.  “What?”

     

    Bette’s legs were dangling over the bed.  She chuckled and shook her head, brought her heels up onto the mattress, and sighed.  "Nothing," she said and closed her eyes. Tina loved that chuckle.

Just when I thought this chapter couldn’t possibly get any better, we were treated to the wondrous, brilliantly orchestrated B&T scenes in the final 20-plus pages. “Tour de force” is a shopworn expression, but it perfectly describes “Laid Up”.     7. That may be the most romantic and erotic scene between B&T I have ever read. I loved Tina’s list of joys–I am in awe of your thoughtfulness and creativity. Try as I may, I couldn’t make myself feel bad for Stephanie. I do feel bad for Theresa–seeing your child in pain, even one as rotten as Stephanie, must be agony. It seems you have begun to wrap up a lot of storylines, but as a most-devoted fan, I am crossing my fingers you will be continuing this story for a long, long time :).     16. 99 pages and the bitch ain’t one! Doesn’t make sense but I wanted to use Jay Z’s line. I think the Nyquil that I am slugging down is doing weird things to my brain. Spectacular storytelling. You have this immense talent to weave together many story lines into this coherent overarching story just like life. Just a true pleasure to read and savor. It’s worth investing the time into reading and digesting this chapter. I hope you continue to bestow us with your amazing talent.
