    Author Notes:

    The gang share good conversation, some laughs, and a party. There are the meeting of minds and other connections–Bette and Tina go to their “happy place,” so do Shane and Carmen. Alice and Dana make some plans. Stephanie is a fish out of water.

    In the previous chapter:

     

    Alice and Dana had created a distraction for Tina to get out of the house where the police waited for more information from the abductor

    Shane was about half an hour from home after her trip to Sacramento to meet up with Shay and get him back to Oregon.

    Bette and Tina were on their way home from Big Bear where they rescued Angelica from her abductor, Josh Brecker.

    Helena decided to go find Dylan in Spain.

    Carmen’s mom told Carmen to give Shane a chance.

    Marcus waited at the Porter-Kennard house for word about Angelica.

    Henry and Stephanie broke up after Henry learned she had purchased items on his credit card and then got a second card in her name under his account.

    Stephanie, after suing for Power of Attorney (then dropping it), sending Bette away for court-ordered Anger Management, stealing her ex-fiancé’s belongings, running up Henry’s credit cards, dissing her mother, treating people like crap, finally got her due.  She was taken away by the police and awaits extradition to North Carolina, charged with theft.

    4:35pm

     

    Shane opened the door to the house she shared with Carmen.  “Carmen.  Carmen,” she called out.

     

    No answer.

     

    Walking through the house, she looked for tell-tale signs of Carmen being at home, but she discovered none.  What she did notice was that the back door was opened and unlocked, but when Shane looked out, Carmen wasn’t in the converted garage, either.  She turned and glanced out the side window and saw Kit and a guy on the patio.  Kit was putting lights around the pool and weaving them in to the branches of large potted plants and small potted trees while the guy was picking up chairs and moving them from around the pool to the table on the deck.  She heard Carmen’s voice asking if Kit thought Bette and Tina would have a problem with her setting up their Bose stereo system outside.  Shane smiled.  She couldn’t wait to see her.  Moreover, she wanted to hold her, to breathe in the scent of her shampoo and cocoa butter moisturizer.  Shane stood at the window for a moment or two and thought, this is what that thing feels like. . . that. . . I belong somewhere thing.  Shane had never wanted to rush to anyone.  Running from someone was what she knew, what she did best, but all she wanted was to rush to her, kiss those soft lips.  But before that could happen, she needed a shower.  Shane sniffed her armpit in acknowledgment of that, left the kitchen, walked down the hall, and into the bathroom.

Just when I thought this chapter couldn’t possibly get any better, we were treated to the wondrous, brilliantly orchestrated B&T scenes in the final 20-plus pages. “Tour de force” is a shopworn expression, but it perfectly describes “Laid Up”. Your dedication and the quality of your work continues to amaze. Thanks so much.

    7. That may be the most romantic and erotic scene between B&T I have ever read. I loved Tina’s list of joys–I am in awe of your thoughtfulness and creativity. Try as I may, I couldn’t make myself feel bad for Stephanie. I do feel bad for Theresa–seeing your child in pain, even one as rotten as Stephanie, must be agony. It seems you have begun to wrap up a lot of storylines, but as a most-devoted fan, I am crossing my fingers you will be continuing this story for a long, long time :). Thank you for this amazing post–I’ll be counting the days until we see you again.

This has to be a record on so many levels…almost 2500 hits in 3days…Do you know how amazing you are as a writer, a storyteller…How lucky are the people in your life that get to call you friend, what a blessing you must be. As a loyal reader and fan I can only imagine. Please don’t ever stop writing, and in your spare time could you pls think about writing a B&T beginning. I loved your Bette coming out story.     16. 99 pages and the bitch ain’t one! Doesn’t make sense but I wanted to use Jay Z’s line. I think the Nyquil that I am slugging down is doing weird things to my brain. Spectacular storytelling. You have this immense talent to weave together many story lines into this coherent overarching story just like life. Just a true pleasure to read and savor. It’s worth investing the time into reading and digesting this chapter. I hope you continue to bestow us with your amazing talent.
