Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 31 (Conclusion and Epilogue)
Dylan would never get used to being waited on hand and foot by servants, but it seemed that Helena and Peggy seldom noticed. At the apartment that she and Helena shared in New York, their arguments were always about money—Helena’s ease at “letting it rain” with the dollars she dropped to pay for every whim and craving and Dylan’s refusal to live that lavish lifestyle. The only concession Dylan made was for a one-person maid service twice a week. They were two working women who also had custody of Helena’s two young children several times a month. However, Dylan still didn’t like it. She had spoken harshly to Helena about it, reminding her that women all over the world worked and raised children without having any help. After hours of disagreement and Helena finally explaining that she would not be doing any cleaning, so if Dylan wanted to clean up after her and her children, she could have at it Dylan was swayed. Still, she couldn’t completely reconcile her feelings about it. She liked having that extra time to spend on her own interests instead of mopping the floor or doing laundry, but it was elitist. Helena always laughed when Dylan cleaned their home before the maid arrived.
“Mummy, I really like what you’ve done with my house.”
“I’m incredulous that you’re making me pay rent. One, it’s so pedestrian and two, I’m your mother.”
“The mortgage still has to be paid. And to refresh your memory, mother, you cut me out of all monies involving the Peabody name. If I didn’t have my own, I’d be swinging in the wind.”
“Is this payback, Helena, darling? I’m paying your monthly mortgage so that you can get back at me for taking Shaolin and the Foundation from you? It was the best move I could have made. You’ve matured since then.”
“It has nothing to do with payback. You’re living here. Easy-peasy answer—you pay.”
“Have you thought about selling?” Marilyn asked.
“We like staying here when we’re on holiday in Los Angeles.”
Dylan poured tea and set the bowl of sugar cubes, a small, fruit plate of lemon wedges, and the pitcher of cream in the center of the table for each woman to help herself. She handed a teacup of English Breakfast to Marilyn, then Peggy, and finally Helena.

Dear PortiaOnly – What an amazing journey; your dedication to this fic and your fanbase is remarkable. I know I’m going to love reading this last part, but before I do I just wanted to offer you this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxAKFlpdcfc ‘Brava!’ & ‘Thank You!’
Portia, congrats on finishing this epic! I will always be a fan, and I was very happy to be one of the people to encourage you, and who knows–maybe you’ll have another fanfic in you that will need to come out! You’ve inspired so many of the writers here, so thank you, and I hope we’ll see you around!xoxo
wow what can i say, this story has been the best time and time again and i can say that i’ve enjoyed every bit of it, though I’m extremely sad that this is it for laid up. My favourite couple have obviously been dana and alice, and you’ve written them and their story just perfectly, how it should have been, for me anyway. For every chapter, page and word….THANK YOU PORTIA!!!!!!!!!!! xox

Oh PortiaOnly I can only say a heart felt Thank you for brining us this impressive and comprehensive epic. I have ready this story from the start. It has always amazed me how you wound the pieces of the series into this complete work. I love where you have taken all of them and how it was so true to the characters we have know. Thanks for all you hard work.
Portia, thank you so much for this epic love story. I’m happy that all of the characters are happy and content. The loop holes that the show had created, you have thoroughly patched. That for me is remarkable. Jenny’s death in season 5 and her magazine being thrown in the pool – what can I say, your attention to detail is a gold standard in fanfic. Kudos to you and also Wendy for creating this wonderful story.
Just a big thanks for taking us on this great journey, it’s been a blast…
Thank you so much for this great story, I will truly miss it.

I read this chapter as slowly as I could so that I could savor every word of it. It was worth me taking the time, although I was fully aware that each time I clicked “Next page” I was that much closer to the finish. This was a fantastic end to such a richly layered story. Everyone got their ending, and each and every one of them earned it… the struggles each couple/family had to overcome to get to their happiness made it all the more believable. You didn’t cheat, Portia, not the readers, not the story. This has been such an absolute treat to read, through all the highs and lows, and I’ve loved every single word of it. (And kudos for not forgetting Jenny this chapter! heh) Thank you, Portia, for writing this story and taking us on the journey with you. Take care, and I hope we see another story from you soon.

Hello PortiaOnly, This story has been an absolute joy to read. It has taken much time and dedication from you to create a momentous melodrama. So many of the images and scenes including dialogue where taken from the show and seemlessly interweaved in to your take on events.I stand up and applaud you and your wonderful talent.Thank you ever so much for sharing it with me.Your Loyal Fan.PS – I hope that you continue to write about these characters and post your work here.
well after about a month and a half im finally finish with your story and as I wrote you before I truly believe you are a gift to writing and taking readers along for the experience. I had to stop several times for work or sleep but it was well worth the time. I prolonged finishing the last chapter didn’t want t see it end, but like the L word, like tibette chemistry, all good things but come to end….Bravo!! my friend I hope to see a book with your name on it forreal..til next story………
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this brilliant Season 3! It is so much better than the televised Season 3.

PortiaOnly- I hope you receive this message so many years after writing this incredible story but I had to tell you, this is by far one of the most amazing L Word stories I’ve ever read. You did an absolutely remarkable job with this. The story telling, the storyline, the interweaving of the characters, seasons, cannon and AU was beyond incredible. You have amazing talent and I hope to read more of your incredible work. Amazingly done!
