Life Happens: Ghosts of London
“Hey.” Helena was surprised when Bette raised her head from between her legs to address her in this jarring manner. “Stop thinking so much.” Helena took a deep breath, pressing her head back against the pillow. Within seconds, nothing in the world mattered, except for this unending experience. When Bette rose to meet Helena again, she made love to her gently and reverently, sliding her hand inside and rolling against her—and in her eyes eternity was reflected.
Over dinner the following night, Helena’s mind took over again.
“Shouldn’t you try to work things out with Tina?” Was what she had to ask.
“Where did that come from?” Bette’s eyes showed genuine surprise, though Helena had also hurt her feelings slightly. “Aren’t you happy with the time we’ve been spending together?”
“Yes, of course I am…” Helena pressed her thumb against her forehead, between her eyes, trying to stop her headache before it started. She decided to stop fighting it instead. “I’m beyond happy. That’s the whole problem. But, returning to Tina. You know, she was ‘the One’—what happened to that?” Helena spoke quickly, making little sense to even herself as her mind lurched forward.
Bette returned to her food. She breathed out hard, and then shoveled a forkful of rice into her mouth, chewing slowly. When she spoke, she looked carefully over Helena. “I don’t know if I believe that there’s only one person for everyone in this life. I used to…but the disappointment of those endings, may have jarred the idea for good.” This conversation was triggering dormant grief in Bette as well. She took a drink of wine. The taste brought forth images of wood and smoke, and suddenly she wanted nothing more than to run her fingers through Helena’s long hair. She smiled, continuing with her useless overgeneralizations. “If there were one person for each of us, I’m sure the things would be a lot easier for us all. But then again, if nothing ever ended, if we never died and if manna fell continuously from the sky, we would never learn a fucking thing either.”
Helena scowled. Bette was refusing her her drama, her tragedy. How could she love this woman knowing that disappointment could lurk around any and every corner?

The ’69 Firebird recalls ski lift 69 on the show (a criminally unfulfilled anvil). In any event, your B and H don’t need car-hood sex to bring the heat, and they’re definitely more than “one story of many”!
I’m really enjoying this story!! I’m loving every moment of it. I can’t wait to see what happens when the two ladies return to the U.S. PPS!!!
Hmn, and I was so sure I had commented on this one. *frowns at self* … I’ll miss their London adventures when life takes them off to NYC, but I guess B has to break up with Jodi, right? … you are so obsessed with German beer, or was it Polish, or Ukrainian *winks* … either way obsessed! Oh yeah, and the sex wasn’t bad either, y’know, it’s not like it make my dreary miserable holiday destination seem a lot warmer, or anything .. :-D
you must be older than me then. heh
Yeah, I hate when I spill German beer down the front of my shit. It’s the only kind to drink when you’re taking a crap. Well, helebette, that was sexy and funny and tender. Very nice. And while I was born in Detroit precisely because of the automotive industry (poor, sorry, stumbling American automotive industry-see what happens when you get all arrogant and entrenched?), I have reached an age where I have no desire to have sex on or in a car, no matter the level of muscularity.
I expect that’s so. And now that I’m driving Japanese, I’m even less interested in cramped spaces. There was a time when back seats were expansive. But even in my youth I appreciated the comfort of a good mattress. Must be the comfort loving Taurus in me, not the Taurus I might be in.
And almost forgot, that sex on a car is a very American thing but not just for the boys, I’ve had that fantasy about a select few once or twice myself. PPS.
HAPPY Dance Time – HelBette is Back!!!Is it wrong that I want bette and Helena tojust stay in this little loft and block the rest of the world out forever? They are too cute together and even though the question was nevr really answered about them being exclusive I think the two are pretty committed to one another. So Helena has dealt w/ Elaine and Bette doesn’t think Tina is an issue so now Hels just needs to stop bringing her up. And Helbette, I don’t know how these two can walk w/ all the smokin hot sex they are having (LOL). Keep up the great writing and I can’t wait to read the next chapter.
Thanks for this chapter, I can’t wait to see how this story progresses… I agree with bettefortina they should stay in London!! Bette could break up with Jodi over email, phone or txt heheh
