"I recall assigning any reading for tomorrow." She said.

"Honey relax. You are not in trouble." Bette said. Jess looked at her.

"I’m not." Jess said a little unsure.

"No, You’re not." Bette confirmed.

"Okay then why did you want me here before class?" Jess asked.

"I didn’t want you to be late for our guest speaker." Bette said.

"Oh. All you had to do was say don’t be late." Jess said. Both Bette and Anne laughed.

"With your record I don’t think so." Bette said.

"Funny. I am not late all the time. Okay maybe. But." Jess said.

"Relax Jess your so tense. She is definitely your daughter." Anne said.

"I am here. Can I go now I have to get some stuff out of my locker." Jess said.

"No. We wanted to talk to you." Bette said.

"We?" Jess asked.

"Yes. We." Bette said. She took the photo album off of the table and handed it to Jess.

"You better sit down." Anne said. Jess looked at her sharply.

"What do you remember about the time that you and I lived in New York?" Bette asked.

"Not much. Just smells mostly and this studio like place. I remember someone teaching me to paint there. I was only 3 when we moved. Why and what does this have to do with her? No offense." Jess said.

"None taken." Anne said.

"Open the album and look through it." Bette said.

"Fine." Jess said. She sat down in a chair and opened the album. Fear and confusion filled her. Her hangover was went completely out of her head. These emotions only got worse as she flipped through the book. She saw pictures of Bette, Anne and Her when in the hospital when she was born, when she came home. There were pictures of the three of them at the park, at the zoo, and at art museums. Jess paused on a with her and Anne at the little studio. They were both covered in paint and both smiling. She closed the book and stood up and put the book down on the desk.

"Are you okay?" Bette asked. Bette knew that it was going to be hard for Jess. She remembered how hard it was for Jess after they moved to LA and how much she had missed Anne at first.

"Umm. I’m not sure." Jess said.

"Jess. I am not here to take anyone’s place. I just want to get to know you." Anne said.

"hmm." Jess said. Bette approached Jess and tried to hug her but Jess stepped back.

"What’s up?" Bette asked.

"Don’t." Jess said and walked out of the office and ran down the hall.

"That went well." Anne said sarcastically.

"Actually it went better than I thought it would. Jess used have this nightmares that I left her and didn’t come back. She never could remember who it was that left her but she knew it was a woman and just assumed that it was me. But it was you in her nightmares, not me. I never could tell her that it was us who left and not you." Bette said.

"I see." Anne said and stood up.

"Do you hate me?" Bette said.

"No. we made the choice to split together." Anne said.

"I hope she doesn’t hate me for keeping you from her." Bette said.

"She won’t. She’ll get over this and hopefully be okay with it." Anne said.
