Like Love Is A Sin Pt 3#
Continues from Alice and Lara’s confrontation at The Planet. Alice and Lara are on their way back to Alice’s place.
A wash of moonlight fell over Alice’s front porch; the evening had caught up with them. Lara pulled on Alice’s arm before reaching the stairs. ‘Are you okay?’ Alice turned to face her nervous lover. ‘I’m fine; it’s just been a strange day.’ Suddenly, the atmosphere grew intense. What were they going to do? They hadn’t seemed to sort out how far the other wanted this relationship to go. Both of them were scared to bare their feelings, and the insecurity was getting to Alice. ‘Well, you don’t have to come in,’ Alice distanced herself from Lara by stepping onto the porch. ‘Would you rather I didn’t? Lara’s voice barely louder than the whisper of the Autumn wind. ‘I don’t know,’ Alice replied softly, pressing her head against the door – her back facing Lara.
‘I think I might just go home,’ Alice just nodded her head in agreement, she couldn’t bare to be witness to the look of sorrow that surely stained Lara’s face at that moment.
Hours had passed, and Alice found herself half asleep on the couch. It was surely late night now, the moonlight creeping through the gaps in her curtains. She stared around her living room, so much furniture, technology and junk surrounded her, yet she felt the place was empty. Why did I suggest Lara leave? I can’t be lonely like this anymore, I can’t be afraid. Alice’s train of thought was soon interrupted by the mundane ring of the telephone. Who the fuck could be calling after midnight?
‘Hello?’ Alice’s voice was weak with exhaustion. ‘Hey Al, it’s Shane, you should be here at the Planet.’ Fucking Shane, Alice thought, I should’ve known.
‘Why what’s going on down there?’
‘Gay speed dating’ Shane laughed.
Alice did find the concept amusing. ‘Well, I’d have to shower and get dressed,’ Shane hushed her friend. ‘Just come down Al, it’s almost going to start.’
‘Okay, Okay, I’ll be there soon.’
Alice did shower and get changed, not with the intention to impress anyone, but just for the simple fact that she had been wearing the same clothes all day. She didn’t know what to expect as she hopped into her car, but Alice needed something to drag her out of her depressive mood.
