Better just laughed, loving the easy banter between them, back to how it had been a long time ago. “I love you, you know that don’t you?”
“Of course I do, you tell me whenever you get a chance. I’m starting to think Tina is deaf with the amount of times you do” she winked.
“Tina loves you just as much brat!” They both laughed and grinned “Now open up”
Shane opened her mouth “ahhhhhhh…….. Ow!!”
She rubbed the side of her head where Bette had slapped her.

“Stop being a smart arse, I know I said open up I didn’t mean your mouth and you know damn well.”
Shane sighed again “Yeah Carmen and I are together and yes we are taking it slow”
“When did you get back together? I thought you wanted to build on your friendship?”
Shane nodded her head, “We do and we are and to answer the first question we got together at the park the other day. Shay acted up, he apologised, Alice took him to the skate park” Shane paused “Actually come to think of it……that sneaky little”
“Shane back on topic you can get back at Alice later”
“When they had gone we got talking again. All we seem to do is either sit in silence or talk a lot. A lot about nothing”
“This wasn’t nothing”
Shane smiled thinking back to that day “Would you like some Coffee?” She stood up and switched the kettle on.
Bette followed her grabbing two cups out of the cupboard. She knew she couldn’t push her, she would tell her in her own time.

They stood in silence watching the kettle boil. “We talked and then I don’t know we kind of connected again and we didn’t want to let it go. We agreed to take things slowly. You know to come to think about it that is all either of us has been saying lately. Slow this slow that.” She sighed again.

“Shane stop with the sighing its annoying. I know you are frustrated, I know something is bothering you just spit it out!”
Shane wasn’t shocked by this outburst; Bette never was one to have patience .
“I’m worried about her family, or more specifically her mum. I let her down, broke the trust she had in me not to hurt her daughter. I haven’ t seen her since that day and i do not think she ever wants to see me again. What she will say when Carmen tells her i don’t know. I’m worried that i’m going to loose Carmen again.”
“Why the hell would you loose her again?” Bette asked confused.
“no one should ever come between family, you guys have taught me that much. And if her mum doesn’t accept it then I can’t be a in relationship with her.”
“Shane that is BS and you know it. Yes Family is important but so is happiness. Carmen is happy with you, this is the happiest i have seen her in a while and that is down to you. Her mum will see that too. I know you are worried about her and you have every right to be” Shane tried to interrupt but Bette carried on “You hurt her daughter in the worst possible way. You broke her heart. Yes she lost trust in you, yes she probably hates you but when she sees how happy you make her daughter then i am sure, positive she will welcome you with open arms.”

“I hope you are right but i can’t help but think the worst.”

Bette drank the remainder of her coffee “Have you spoken to Carm about this?” Shane shook her head “You really need to tell her what is on your mind, if you don’t then you are just going to go round and round in circles until someone takes the courage to step off”.
