Lucky in Love (Chapter 24)

“And I love you,” she whispered. “So very much.”
“What time is it now?” Alice asked again.
“7:15,” Shane answered. “You said not to call until 7:30. Do you want me to call now?”
“No, I can wait.” Shane laughed out loud from the bed next to Alice’s. “What?” Alice wrote.
“Al, you’re like a five year old on Christmas eve. You kicked Bette and Tina out almost before they finished eating.”
“That bad?”
“No, they thought it was funny. Besides, they could barely keep their hands off of each other. I think they were happy to head home.”
“Are you going to tell me about Carmen while we wait?”
“There’s nothing to tell,” Shane’s voice was noticeably somber.
“What did you do?” Shane’s eyes were closed and Alice rapped lightly on her table to get her attention.
“What makes you think I did anything?”
“I’ve known you too long Yoda. What happened?”
Shane sighed heavily. She wasn’t ready to talk about this, but her next appointment with Dr. Lynch was scheduled for eleven in the morning.
“I was freaking out and I fucked up. Again.”
“You didn’t…” Shane didn’t let her finish the thought.
“No I didn’t step out on Carmen, but I might as well have,” she said. “At the time I thought I was doing the right thing. Please, Alice, I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Okay, but I may never be such a good listener again.” She smiled sarcastically and batted her eyes, making Shane laugh in spite of herself.
“Check once more before I call,” Shane said.
Dana’s reply to Alice’s email was there, sent five minutes earlier. It simply read: “Yes to everything. I love you and I’m on my way.”
Lara and Helena were waiting for the children to join them for dinner at The Planet when Bette and Tina stopped in to pick something up for dessert. Helena was happy to have a moment with them while they waited for their order.
“I want to tell you how sorry I am for what Winnie did and what her actions put you through,” she said sincerely.
Tina’s took Bette’s hand. The memory of Alice, crumpled and helpless on the floor, swept through them both.
“It’s not your fault,” Bette answered. “As I understand it, you could have been the one who went over that railing.”

ok winnie really needs to be in jail, this is crazy! glad alice is on the road to recovery and shane is taking such good care of her. keep up the great writing!
Every time I read I think it can’t get any better and then you go and totally prove me wrong. Thank you! Loved it, especially the danish parts but I think that’s pretty obvious.

Yay! happy jig. After my declaration of crushing on the Pegster I feel sort of bare – just to clarify – it’s not like I want to get down with the lady but her voice is so smooth – I think I’d like her to read to me – wait now I’ve said way to much. Your story still fab and I love it so.
