    Meet Me In Montauk; #05

“Wow, that is long,” she replied.

“How about your Tina?” I asked.

“Tina and I have been together for about five years,” she said.

“Still very much in love, I gather?”

“We…I mean, all relationships are never smooth-sailing, right?”

I nodded, “That is true, no relationship is perfect.”

We ended up spending the rest of the night talking about ourselves, our lives, our likes and our dislikes.

For that moment I was there with Bette, I had conveniently forgotten about my life with Tash back in Melbourne. She was a nagging thought at the back of my mind.

There were no excuses, but I was draw to Bette. Like a moth to a flame.

And I knew that I might really get burned.

    ◊◊◊

    Bette

Before I knew it, it was already one in the morning. Everyone had already retired to their rooms, yet the both of us seemed to have not yet run out of things to talk about.

We had so much in common, from our love of the ocean to our favorite foods.

How ironic was it that I loved making pasta, and she had a soft-spot for Italian cuisine. How coincidental was it that the one thing she made best was Cheese Cake, and that was my favorite dessert in the world. I couldn’t help but smile just thinking of how similar we were in an unknown number of ways.

A part of me felt as if I had knew her; it was as if I could read her in a way I could never read Tina.

Ah, Tina. This nagging thought at the back of my mind.

You have a girlfriend, Bette, and she’s waiting for you back in L.A..

“It’s late,” I said, smiling at Helena, “We should get some rest for tomorrow’s meeting.”

She glanced at her watch, “Oh gosh, yes we should. I didn’t realize it was so late already, I’m sorry to have kept you.”

“No no,” I said, not wanting her to regret spending this time with me, “I wanted to stay.”

She smiled and as our eyes met, I felt as if she was reading my soul.

We stood next to each other in the elevator, as the tension grew between the both of us.

I wondered what it would be like to kiss her. I closed my eyes, trying to banish these betraying thoughts from my mind. I looked at her from the corner of my eye and her eyes were closed too.

I smiled to myself. What was the possibility that she could be thinking the same thing as me?

    ◊◊◊

    Helena

I wondered what it would be like to kiss her, I thought, hoping my expression wouldn’t give myself away.

As we reached my floor, I turned to her, “Good night, Bette,” I said, “It was lovely to meet you.”

“What time is your flight tomorrow?” she asked, looking down at the ground.

“I’m leaving on an eight o’clock flight,” I replied, “What about you?”

“Ah, midnight,” she smiled, “It was great to finally meet you, Helena.”

Oh gawd, when she said my name. It sent a chill down my spine.

“Indeed,” I replied, “I guess I’ll see you tomorrow then.”

    “Yeap, good night.”

    “Good night.”

I turned to walk back to my room.

“Helena?” she called out, taking a step out of the elevator.

“Yea?” I answered as I spun round to look at her.

    “Nothing..nothing…nevermind. Good night.”

I smiled at her, “Good night, Bette.”

After I heard the elevator door’s close, I turned around again and looked at where she stood only a few moments before.

    I couldn’t explain it.

Bette Porter had me bewitched, bothered and bewildered.

    1. These two ladies are so in trouble. Wow, Bette flies all the way to Singapore from LA and she have to attend a meeting that same night, spends all night talking to Helena….man, she must be exhausted.

    2. This was an excellent update. You know after working another long hour day, it feels good to come home and read several good stories. Thanks for the update! And I’m also happy that you like my story. Thanks for the support!

    3. You write their attraction very well. I would have to say they are in trouble. I’m still holding out for their partners at home. A one night stand hopefully won’t kill anybody. I’m so torn

    4. Well Kena…let’s just go ahead and shed a tear now! Wahhhh! Maybe I should join the hopeless romantics, enjoy the dreaminess of it like Z and just be happy that they found each other! Not! lol! Seriously, really nice chemistry…they are indeed in trouble! Enjoying the story…PPS!!!

    5. well done…loved the parallel thoughts!!! But how can you leave is hanging like that!! You are right, both have interesting relationships that aren’t exactly …but while you can manage your response, you cannot always help who you love!!! PPS

    6. Oh no you did NOT just leave it there!! Not oven one kiss?? Now it is absolutely true that people get tired and can forget to meet obligations one time, or even more than one time..but it appeared to me that this was a habit with Tash, to let Helena take care of everything, to be the parent. I have to also imagine that Tina is making a habit of not being there for Bette, not just one time. Because if they are both lovely spouses who messed up one time, then Bette and Helena are just going to be complete jerks, and I don’t want them to be jerks. I want to be happy that they are finding each other and that they will find what they need with each other, and be happy with each other. As far as Tina being a workaholic like Bette was, I was under the impression that Bette was trying to keep her job, which was immensely demanding, cos she was the sole support of the family. i do not think she enjoyed working herself into the ground. At any rate, soon I hope, that they, at least, KISS!!!!!

    7. Ok im boring you but keep up all the good work.

    8. **Sigh** “She smiled and as our eyes met, I felt as if she was reading my soul.” … Oh, she was! She was! … I just woke up, eunibaby…but reading this put me into a dreamy state…Tanks!
