Out of Closet (B&T time-travel romance), Ch. 25

Tina interpreted Bette’s silence as a sign that the brunette wasn’t ready to talk yet, “Bette, I’m here for you. Just know that if you need to talk about anything, I am here,” Tina squeezed Bette’s hand and got off the chair to go back to her room, thinking that maybe Bette needed some time alone.

She was near the patio door when she heard Bette’s soft voice, “I found an article about my kidnapping and Christina’s death…”

“What?” Tina immediately turned around and quickly returned to the lounge chair where Bette was sitting.

“Just a short notice in ‘Los Angeles Herald’ and it felt so weird and so upsetting to read about myself,” Bette continued, oddly comforted to be able to talk about it with Tina. “It felt like it was not me they were talking about but some stranger who looked like me and had my name. I wanted to find more issues for the next couple of weeks to see if there was more to the story…you know, my family’s reaction maybe, or if the sheriff found out who did this unspeakable act. But I was told that there was a fire in the newspaper office a couple of weeks after this nightmare happened and everything was destroyed. My hope is that another library might have some private newspaper collections, or at least that’s what a woman in the library said. And Christina…” Bette stopped, unsure how much Tina knew about them. They had never talked about Christina but Bette assumed that Alice probably told Tina something.

“Bette,” Tina smiled warmly, realizing the reason for Bette’s hesitation. “Alice told me the whole story.”

“The whole story?” Bette repeated, “Even about the kiss and her death?”

“Yes, Bette…the whole story,” Tina replied softly.

Bette felt more tears coming. ‘This is just great,’ she thought with overwhelming sadness. Bette closed her eyes again, falling into a hazy state of mental oblivion.

She suddenly saw herself in a white room, sitting on a bright red sofa. Across from her she saw an empty chair. She looked around and suddenly saw a creepy figure appearing in the room and leisurely sitting down. Bette couldn’t see who it was because unexpectedly everything in the room turned blurry.
