Chapter 10

“What do you mean she’s not dead?  What the fuck went wrong??”  Dawn Denbo was about to pop a vein she was so pissed. 

Amy just stood there listening to the raving lunatic. 

“All I know is that she was alive when the ambulance picked her up.  All her friends and Tina are at the hospital now.  The car is a total wreck…but somehow she survived.”

Denbo is pacing her bar and talking to herself like a crazed animal.  ‘No wonder Tina wasn’t home when I drove to the house.  Will that Porter bitch ever go away?  It was the perfect plan….I should have taken care of it myself…you can’t trust others to do anything as well as you can do it yourself.’

Sam arrives to find the girls in the waiting room. 

“Hey guys, how is Bette doing?”

Alice answers, “She’s in surgery right now.  Her leg and foot are pretty busted up and they have to reset the bones.”

“Did Tina get a chance to see her before she went in the operating room?”

“Yes….this place wouldn’t still be standing if she hadn’t.  She, Helena and Kit are in the room she’ll be staying in after surgery.  They have her in the VIP section of the hospital.  It pays to be connected to the Peabody’s.”

“The VIP section is more about privacy than quality of care.  This is a great hospital, everyone is treated like VIPs, Alice.  Bette will just have a larger room and more privacy from other patient’s visitors.  Have the police been here to question Bette?”

 Shane stands up and answers, “Yes, they did….they said they’d be back in the morning.” She narrows her eyes at Sam and asks, “You went to the scene, didn’t you?  What did you find out?  What the hell happened out there?”

Sam sighs and debates in her mind what to tell them.  She has more investigating to do and she doesn’t want to inadvertently tip off Denbo that she is in her sights.  But she knows Bette’s friends are worried sick.

“Shane….all of you…..I don’t know everything yet…but know this.  I will find out who is behind this…and she will pay.”
