    Provocations Linger-Chapter 8

“Come on Bette. Let’s go inside, it’s chilly out here and it’s misting.”

Bette looked at her like she was considering the idea.

“You’re all wet babe,” Tina tugged a bit more.

Bette looked down at her sweater and jeans and back at Tina.

“We argued about you. You’d have been really proud of me,” Bette offered a sad smile that was becoming all too familiar.

    Tina looked at her bemused.

Wrapping an arm around Bette, she firmly lifted her from the chair, “What did you argue about?”

She guided Bette toward the house.

    ****************

2008- still American Airlines, flight 5….

Tina stared at her planner, reading the same line repeatedly. The New York skyline could be seen below and she and Bette still hadn’t addressed the future. She had no idea how Bette felt about continuing their renewed contact. For that matter Tina wasn’t sure how she felt about it. All she knew for certain was that she didn’t want to say goodbye in 20 minutes and had no idea how to approach Bette about it.

Assuming nothing had changed, Sam would be waiting for her when they landed. Tina was divided. The idea of riding into the city with both of them was not appealing but the idea of letting Bette take a cab felt worse. Rubbing her neck, she stole a look at the brunette.

Bette read thru the notes she’d made on Lauren Trope in preparation for her meeting. Like Tina she was preoccupied with the approaching landing. She wanted to talk about what would happen after they returned to California but felt like she’d made her wishes reasonably clear. She was waiting for Tina to be more forthcoming about her feelings. She made herself ignore the hazel eyes she felt watching her.

Tina chewed her lip. They hadn’t discussed Sam in several hours, and then it was a brief conversation. Tina had mentioned she was staying with her in the Village and offered Bette a ride from the airport. Bette had avoided replying.

Tina frowned slightly. She really did not want to make this decision in front of Sam.

    1. Zuzu, I am loving it.. 2004 snippet ACTUALLY made me cry. It was so sweet. [in reality im just a little tired and on the emotional side.] Sam.. is a gonner! woop dee doop, This Tessa thing has to be bad .. and Bette satying so close in peggy’s house.. how perfect.. maybe Peggy will organise for Bette to go to one of Tee’s functions… ah the wonders of fiction.. wonderful as always.. Nr

    2. Soooooo, Sam doesn’t know about Bette. Is Tina doing what I so absolutely hate – lying by omission? That’s so tacky and so S3. I’ll withhold judgement until I read the next exciting installment of this captivating story. Thanks!

    3. Zuzu…still masterfully written. This is really getting good. Something will have to happen to have Bette stay more than 24 hours…or…they’ll meet up back in California. Bye bye Sam…no one told her about the inseparable B&T connection.

    4. So happy to see a new post. I am totally captivated by this story and can’t wait to read what the weekend brings. I’m sensing one very tense car ride from the airport. Thanks for the update!

    5. fabulous , loving this great story line. Can’t wait for your next wonderfully written and developed chapter. Love the mystery between your tibette . PPS. ;)

    6. I am hoping with Bette and Tina’s reconnect comes the end of Tina and Sam. I think Sam may figure it out before Tina admits it though. I am totally hooked on this story!

    7. Let me clarify for you, Sam. The word you’re looking for is “wife”. I do hope it’s not going to be too awkward between Bette, Tina and Sam… but I’m really (selfishly) hoping that there’s a breakup on the horizon. With Sam and Tina. Thanks for the post, Z!

    8. Oh my, why would Tina not tell Sam about Bette? Is it because she does not think she and Sam are permanent or is it that she does not want to think of Bette as an “ex?” Very interesting situation. PPS

    9. i feel so jealous on Bette’s behalf…sam sounded so gorgeous in your description; how can bette win here?…i do want her and tina back 2gether BUT…maybe Tina and Sam work? maybe Sam makes Tina happy? I dunno I’m torn here!!! pps

    10. You write so beautifully – the sadness and the heartelt desire to heal is wonderfully written. I know you might not put them back together but you have given us all a conversation that IC never could manage – thank you. I’m hooked when’s the next chapter.
