Seemingly Lost Chptr. 15
“Alice, tell me I can do this.” Bette said through puffed out cheeks and trepidation in her heart.
“You can and will do this. Because I refuse to go another month of mornings with just the remnants of Shane as breakfast and dinner conversation. And if you two bitches don’t come back peaceful and in love, I’m going to beat both of you over the head until you both have amnesia and discover you love each other then.”
“Well thanks Al, for that colorful encouragement. Now please get serious and help me get on this plane, doofus.” Bette said laughing at her friends misguided and unique words of reassurance.
“Ok, 1. Just listen to her. She’s been down there for a while so she’s probably going to start using those crazy country colloquialisms again, that make absolutely no sense to anyone but her; you know how she gets. 2. She…” Alice stopped abruptly when she saw the smile and glazed over look on Bette’s face. “Hey focus.”
“Right sorry.” Bette apologized as she didn’t realized that she’d been caught daydreaming about how Tina’s vast southern ways and speech was such a turn on for her.
“2. She’s going to know if you show up with a practiced speech and if you do she will tear you apart. So shoot straight from the heart and know that despite everything she still knows your heart. So let it do all the talking for you. Ok?” Alice said now smiling at her friend and running her thumb across the back of Bette’s hand in hers. She looked into Bette’s eyes and hoped that her short speech was enough to propel Bette forward from this point. Bette gathered her bags from Alice’s car and was heading towards the door when the loud honk from behind disrupted her stride she turned around saw Alice roll down the passenger window and lean towards her as she yelled “Oh yeah, 3. See if you can get an upgrade to a convertible. Get some sun before you go see her, you look sickly. Not a good look for you Sweetie.” and with her last words of wisdom Alice swerved into traffic and sped off.
“I have a reservation for Bette Porter. Is there anyway I can get a convertible instead of the mid size?”
