Shane and Molly: A Love Story Chapters 1-6

Takes place a few days after Jenny walks in on Shane and Niki.

    Chapter 1

Shane is sitting alone in her car. She’s been crying. She looks out her window and sees a young couple walking by holding hands. She grimaces and smacks her steering wheel. She hangs her head and steels herself against the pain she knows might be awaiting her. She turns the ignition and drives off.

Molly is alone in her room surrounded by suitcases. They are all open and empty. She holds some T-shirts in her hand and is staring at one of the open suitcases. She looks at her bed and a brief look of happiness flashes across before it returns to sadness. She looks back at her suitcase. She just can’t bring herself to pack her stuff away. She throws the T-shirts on her dresser and collapses on the bed. She hears the doorbell ring. She ignores it not wanting to see anyone now. It rings again and is followed by a banging on the door. It’s Shane.

She yells, “Molly! I know you’re home! Molly! I need to speak with you….” Her yelling becomes a soft whispering, almost pleading, “Please, please, please, answer the door…” Her voice trails off. She bangs her head against the door in frustration and calls out again, “Mol—”. Just then the door opens. It’s Molly. Shane looks at her tear stained face and half smiles. She tries to talk, “He-” but Molly interrupts her.

“What are you doing here?” The sharpness of her retort startles Shane.

“I, uh, I came to um apologize. I was wrong. I never should have let you walk away from me. I nev–”

“I don’t care Shane. Just go.” Molly slams the door in her face. Shane stumbles away, physically hurt from her rejection. She can’t make it down the front steps and just sits there with her head in her hands.

Molly leans against the door with tears streaming down her face. “Fuck,” she whispers. She turns around and places one hand on the door and one on the doorknob. She begins to turn the knob, but stops. She places her forehead against the door jamb. Her inner struggles flash across her face. She wants to call after Shane, to tell her how much she loves her and wants to fight for her but she is afraid of being hurt. She finally gives into her desire to be with Shane and she flings the door open. “Shane! Shane! Sh–” she yells out. She sees her sitting on the stoop. Shane’s head snaps up and Molly can see the pain painted across her face. She can see the hope in her eyes. Molly walks over to her and sits down next to her. She takes her head in her hands and kisses her deeply and passionately. Shane reaches up and holds her head with her hands. She pulls back and lets out a little sob and looks Molly right in the eyes. She can see her love and her pain reflected back in Molly’s eyes and it cuts her deeply.
