    She Said…She Said (2 of 2)

On top of the financial issues was the pushiness about sex. I was exhausted from being up with Angelica every night feeding her. My body had not bounced back from pregnancy. My stomach was sagging, my nipples were always leaking and I had this huge scar from the c-section. She just wanted to get laid.

We wasted even more money on a sex therapist. I had hoped she would tell Bette to back off and give me time. Instead, she was pushing high cost chocolates and ice kits and giving us “sensate” exercises to do at home, which I refused. Bette would drop subtle and not so subtle hints – “at least someone’s getting a little somethin’-somethin’,” – in front of our friends, no less. It was embarrassing and it pushed me further away from her.

The more Bette pushes, the more I resent it. There will be time and energy and hopefully desire for that later, but for now Angelica is so young and demands so much from me. Bette just needs to learn to be patient.

Patience. Now that is not a word in the Bette Porter vocabulary.

Bette is a force of nature. She thinks her “things” are more important than everyone else’s and that’s really, really hard in a relationship. Her work, her needs, her ideas are always right, always on a higher plane. She’s more enlightened, more informed, more intuitive than everyone else. It’s saving the arts. It’s meditation. It’s Buddhism. It’s passionate work. It’s all the world according to Bette and sometimes the world according to Bette gets a little crowded and I feel pushed out.

Like the time she had to fly to Washington D.C. to save the world of art, while totally abandoning her promise to stay home with Angelica. And on top of that she had the gall to call and tell me she was at Senator Grisham’s apartment, and was basically asking for permission to sleep with her? I told her to go ahead if that is what she wanted to do. She said that she didn’t, she just wanted me to care – like threatening another affair would make me care? Well I cared, but I wasn’t going to tell her that. The last time I cared I got hurt, so I just stayed silent and detached. If you distance yourself, you can’t get hurt, right?

    1. That was great. Fresh voice. Well written. I look forward to much more. It is by chance that I was watching exactly the episodes you were referencing in these two chapters over the last two days. I noticed there were already two chapters posted and was so pleased that you went with both points of view. Tina was given short shrift in season three and I think they both had actions to answer for. Thank you for writing and please do continue to write much, much more! I don’t take time to read much – but I’m pleased to say this story was a unique take on the time frame in question. Okay. I’ll stop now. Peace to you…

    2. *JD*… I totally agree with Swimmie on this one. This chapter was a great read. You don’t have to change it from first person. I love how you’re writing it. I can’t wait to read more.

    3. As I commented before, excellent interpretations of the main characters. Clearly written and their feelings are well expressed. A very good read. Please continue.

    4. These two need a little role playing. If tinas attracted to men, bette can be her man. Bette needs to turn around, come home, dress in her old levis, a mens shirt, and some old leather boots, then strap it on for tina. She could sneak in the house at night and give tina the uncomplicated, gratuitous ride shes looking for, no emotional attachments, drama, or angst….sometimes someones just gotta back down from the situation. Wish they wouldve went that angle in the show but ultimately tina just wasnt ready to forgive and be thrown back into the tumultuous relationship they had built

    5. thought this masterpiece was surprisingly inspirational. there were a lot of disputes i found myself conflicting with on the show because you could see both points of views. needless to say thats why the show was so popular you read and saw between the lines what you wanted to. Great job and hope you write some more soon.

    6. It’s great that you are writing this story, have read both chapters and enjoyed that you have shown how both were feeling when that was going on. Of course, we never got that on the show and I always wanted to know just how they felt and what they were thinking. Thanks for showing us.

    7. I’d have to agree with swimmy as well. Your writing is well planned out and great to read on these two characters thoughts. Too bad that they didn’t share them with each other.
