“Are you hitting on my girlfriend?”

    “She isn’t your girlfriend anymore.”

“Get out of here you stupid dyke,” rage flashes in Eric’s eyes.

Bette smiles sweetly, “I am sorry I have taken up too much of your precious time.” She leans closer to peer around Eric, “Bye Candi.”

“Oh, Bette. I thought I heard a familiar voice. It is nice to see you.” Candi checks Bette out. “It is really good to see you.” She kisses Eric’s cheek. “Are you coming baby? I’ll see you around Bette.”

Bette smiles warmly at the woman, “Bye. Candi.” Eric won’t be coming if she could help it. She leans in closer so she can whisper in Eric’s ear, “She likes if you suck on her toes.” Bette smiles sweetly as Eric’s face contorts in repulsion. She turns on her heels and saunters down the steps. She had not personal slept with Candi, she could never quite bring herself to go somewhere Shane had been, but she didn’t mind letting Eric think she did. You have to love LA.

Bette could not help but smile all the way to work. The day was bright and sunny. She put the top down on the convertible, enjoying the feel of the wind in her hair. The look on Eric’s face would be ingrained in her memory for a very long time. She steals a look at the box in the passenger seat, her smile growing impossibly large. In that box was her future, her insurance to a meeting with Tina. As she pulls in front of the gallery, she pulls out her cell.

    Guess what.

    What?

Bette is surprised by the prompt response.

    Hey, why aren’t you asleep?

I can’t fall asleep. What I am supposed to be guessing?

If I told you it wouldn’t be a guess.

OK, u decided to go to breakfast with me instead of work?

I wish. Nope, that isn’t it. Do you want to guess again?

I really don’t have any clue.

I’ll give you a hint. They are smaller then a breadbox and I now have them in my possession.

    Bette! U should not have!

    3. Well this short story was just too cute! Yes, I’m a sucker for cuteness. You definitely fooled me with the “Let’s do it” comment. Then I felt like a bonehead because I didn’t realize “window shopping” meant just that and wasn’t a euphemism for anything. lol

    4. Brilliant, Brilliant, BrilliantI am so captured by this whole concept with the IMs. I love your Bette taking charge and going after it. The way she just knew it was Tina also was fate. Soul mate kind of stuff. Great

    5. it’s a miracle, i was just thinking about this story today because i miss it…thank you for this delight…can we beg you to continue? i love it…thanks

    7. That was a great short story – so often the longer ones are just too intimidating for me to start. Thanks for taking the time to come up with such an innovative idea. Look forward to more.

    8. I went back and read the first chapter again before I read the final one. This story was just beautiful and gives me faith that when two people really love each other they can make a life together. I hope you can get back to your other story at some point soon. See I’m back to bugging you about your writing.

    9. Lordy Be! That was just so beautifully written that I could feel all of the emotions that were past from woman to woman. Just like ally said you should be on the writing team for the L word.
