“What was that?” Bette prompts Tina to carry on.

“I don’t know what to call it. We didn’t rush home to each other on Fridays. We didn’t try to starch out lunch long enough to see each other. I guess we both knew we were not forever, just for today”

Did she just loosely quote Bonnie Raitt? Bette sat down heavily on the bed. There was a good, no make that great, possibility that she was getting in over her head. It felt gloriously like drowning in a sea of chocolate. “I have been relationships like that. One of them even lasted two years. My last one was only six weeks long. We are best friends now. We should have never tried to be more.”

    “Isn’t that strange?”

“No. Do you think you will forgive him?”

“I don’t know if I can,” Tina replies honestly.

“Well, he must be a fool.”

    “Why is that?”

“Only a fool would let someone like you slip through their fingers.”

Tina did not give a response; her breathing could hardly be heard over the phone line.

“I am sorry. I made you uncomfortable again.”

“No. I just lose the ability to speak when I blush.”

Bette takes another chance, “I bet that is adorable.”

Tina scoffs, “How would you know? You haven’t met me.”

“One of my other areas of expertise is women.”

“So I hear. So tell me Bette. If you are an expert in women and PJs, how do you make a living off those? Pimp maybe?”

Bette laughs, “No. I use my last area of expertise to pay the bills.”

    “What is that?”

    “Art.”

    “You are an artist?”

“No not my art. I own a gallery.”

“Oh, once again I am impressed.”

Bette chuckles, “Don’t be. I have only been in business six months.”

    “What did you do before?”

“I worked in other people’s galleries, museums work, and a little consulting.”

    “So you love it?”

“Immensely. So you love your job?” Bette asks trying to steer the conversation towards the mysterious Tina. She longs to know more about the divine creature who stumbled into her life so unexpectedly.

“I am a head of development at Alphaville studios.”

“Oh, the movies. Are you developing anything must see?”

Tina laughs again, a sound Bette is rapidly coming to love, “No. Not really.”

The women talk for hours about nothing and everything. As the clouds plays across the moon the women did the dance of a budding relationship. They asked anything and everything that struck their fancy. As the sun started to show itself at the edge of horizon, they had reached the comfort of two people who had known each other for years.

Bette yawns, “We should probably hang up.”

    “Yes, we should.”

    “I really enjoyed this, Bette.”

    “Me too Tina.”

“Ok, well I guess this is goodbye.”

    “Yes, I suppose.”

    1. Well done V-nothing to scold you about, thanks, not a role I’m comfortable with. Unique beginnig, which I appreciate. Kids these days with their texting!

    2. Talking to a stranger until the sun comes up and making a connection in the process…yep I’ve been there. Even funnier is it started as a mistake much like Tina dialing the wrong number. Tina calling Bette a dick is still cracking me up. LOL Can’t wait to see how this ends!

    3. To be honoust.. when I saw it I thought: “oh no.. not another B&T story…” But nothing was on tv here in Holland, and I thought.. well lets read this story! But I like it very much!! Wow, they will have a high phone-bill btw!! Especially Tina, cause they’ve phoned all night…. But well… money is no issue in this lovestories :-p

    4. That was SOOOOOO wonderful and so sweet…..you definitely have to write more than 2 chapters…..I love this story already……do I have to beg???? LOL
