SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL
Chapter 27

Bette had been for a Sunday morning run – this had been a new run and a new route for her. The first run she had taken from Tina’s new apartment and it had been interesting – she had run past some of the great New York landmarks and that had at least broken some of the monotony that running did make her endure. But it had been a good run and she had used it to get the events of the last few days into perspective before they headed out later to have lunch with her parents – that would a landmark of sorts. That was proof that they were beginning to settle down into a routine- that their families were accepting of their relationship and prepared to include Tina in their plans. It might only seem like it was lunch but it was something much more for Bette.
When Bette reached the top of the building and walked inside she grinned at the sight she saw. Tina was sweeping the floor with a brush, collecting all the mess together in a pile.
“Is that you doing housework ?” Bette asked leaning against the door
Tina glanced round “Yes  – what of it ?”
“Nothing “ Bette replied smiling
“You wish to make a federal case of this ?” Tina asked
“Me? No – just making an observation – practising my skills if you like  – we have to look out for unusual events  – and this is certainly unusual “
“Would you be being sarcastic Porter ?” Tina turned and faced Bette who had the biggest grin on her face
“why do you say that my sweet ?”
“Because I am pretty certain you are”
“Some people are paranoid” Bette replied “ I may have to take a photograph – I could send it to Emma – proof that I have you under my spell – Cinderella Kennard”
Tina laughed “Don’t make things any worse “
“I am going to have a shower if that is okay ?”
“Of course – we are leaving for your parents in about 30 minutes okay ?”
Bette nodded “I should be showered and dressed in 15 “
“Do you happen to know what’s on the menu ?”
“I gather its roast pork and she was cooking yesterday so there might be fruit pies and possibly extras for us to take away”
“Is your mom going to make sure we don’t starve ?”
“I think that is pretty much inevitable don’t you “
Bette walked across and kissed Tina on the lips and whispered “How long did it take you before you figured out that thing doesn’t plug into the mains ?”
“This can be used as a weapon you know “ Tina brandished the brush at Bette who hurried in the direction of the bathroom
“I must ask our tutors for how to deal with a unprovoked attack with a broom “
“Probably just shoot it or me “ Tina replied going back to cleaning her apartment.
