Chapter 2

Bette drove, drove for what seemed like hours tears running down her face, tired she found herself parking her car in front of her sister’s Kit condo.

Bette walked up to the door and knocked.

A few moments later Kit appeared half asleep.

“Baby sis, what’s wrong” a groggy Kit answered the door.

A crying Bette collapsed in Kit’s arms.

“She leaving Kit, she leaving me”

“Who?”

“Jodie she’s going to take the show in Madrid”

“Oh Bette I’m sorry, but we kind of knew she would, why are you so shocked, you said so yourself, it’s a good opportunity for her and her work a once in a life time deal”

Bette cried holding Kit closer.

“I know…I know I just never really thought she would leave I thought that maybe after I told her the news she would stay.”

“What are you talking about what news?”

“Kit, I’m pregnant”

“What?” Kit said

“I went and got inseminated and I just found out today I’m pregnant”

“Did you tell Jodie?”

“Yes”

“And she is still leaving?” Kit asked

Bette nodded

“She told me she never wanted to be a mother, she only agreed to having children because I wanted them.” Bette said sobbing

“I’m so sorry Bette, so sorry” Kit rubbed Bette’s back

“She’s leaving Kit, it’s like she doesn’t care.  I really think she never loved me Kit.”

“Oh Bette she loved you, she loved you in her own way, a person like Jodie she can’t be tied down she needs to be free, come on Bette you knew she was a little self centered”

“You must have been really important to her to have kept her settled for so long”

Bette continued to cry

“Bette” Kit said softly

“I know you’re hurting right now, but I want you be to be honest right now, did you still even love her? I know you better than anyone and I just didn’t see the spark in your eye anymore…and the problems you guys were having, I think this baby was just a way for you to hold on to the relationship, not to her…you knew from that start Jodie never wanted children.”
