Sunday Mornings: 3 – Seventeen Reasons Why Not …

    ~

“Yo … ho … Mommy …?” Kit yelled, her entrance through the front door noisily disrupting Bette’s thoughts, Angelica wriggled and cried to be set free, Aunty Kit a bit of a tyrant when it came to letting her roam about the house,

Bette went to greet them, scooping Angie up for a hug, “Hey sweetie,”

Kit stood close by the front door, a little puzzled in part by the shocking exterior of the house next door, littered with party remains and spilling out half clothed drunken people from the side door. Bette’s a stark contrast, clean and warm and smelling of coffee as in the background a bright a chirpy voice hummed to the noticeable sound of the shower running,

The couch looked like someone slept on it, “Good party then?” Kit asked,

Bette stepped up closer, “I guess,” she hugged Angie close and kissed her fondly on the nose before setting her free, she looked up and signed ‘Jodi’, so Bette shook her head and satisfied the little girl toddled off in pursuit of her toys, “I left pretty early,” Bette continued, “But I think Tina and Jodi both had a good time,”

Kit put down her bag and took a seat, raising her eyebrow slowly, “You’ve seen Tina?”

Bette played nonchalant, tidying away the glass from the coffee table and the high heeled black shoes, hidden behind it, “She’s here,” she explained, waving Tina’s shoes, “too much tequila and Jodi though she was maybe gonna drive,”

    Kit nodded,

“She wasn’t,” Bette went on to explain, “but anyway, she spent the night on the couch,”

Kit raised her eyebrow once again, “She’s still here?”

Bette nodded, taking the seat opposite, “In the shower,”

    “And where’s Jodi?”

Bette smirked, briefly, but still Kit caught it, “She had to leave, she’s preparing for this meeting with the Board of Governors at the University on Monday,

Kit nodded, once again stumped by her sisters life, ex lovers and current lovers and the degree of indecision in between, “Bette …” her tone scolded, and Bette felt the judgement in her voice, caring but unsure, as if to express the fear and unwillingness she had of going back in time and nursing her baby sister through another round of ups and downs, fights and torturous flings, or losing the love of her life all over again.

    1. Perfect!!! You write them so unbelievably well… Can’t imagine what it’s gonna be after next week’s episode! These reasons why are just so right and beautifully worded… They (you) basically say it all about what real love is… Because sometimes it is simply wrong to think that love can be found in grand gestures, for true love resides in the most tiny and ridiculous details like the ” lift (of) a heartbeat with a twitch of her eyebrow, a wrinkle of her nose”. But I think your most powerful statement of this love is: “Because for every hurtful moment, every second she watched her with Henry and felt her heart being ripped free of her chest there’d be this tiny little moment, some joke or a stolen glance at her with Angie and the world would set itself right again, spinning them eventually back into each others arms.”… I bow to you, Sofa, thank you.

    2. You are THE BOMB! You are truly one of the VERY BEST writer’s on this site. I love your one chapter snippets like this. It is brilliant, and your words are so incredibly moving. Sofa, you could write twenty chapters a day and I would want more. Thanks hun.

    3. That was as good as I’ve read in many a day on this site. Full of insight into Bette’s inner mood, it seemed like a meditation of what could be again transposed over what has gone before. I loved this and I’ll be looping back to catch some more of your work. Thanks!

    4. very very lovely, even if it is tibette;) kidding hun…i liked especially the attention to those small (seemingly small but are they really? not the way you write them) details that make daily interactions into epic stories. xox
