The Adventures Of Bette Porter and Sissee Gardner After Yale (Part 7, Chapter 7)
PART SEVEN: VENICE, CALIFORNIA
Chapter 7
On the way home, Bette asked me for the details about what Howie and I discussed during our five minutes alone and when I told her, she became very upset with me.
“I can’t believe you fell for that bullshit,” she admonished me.
“I swear I was thinking about you Bette,” I protested. “He said I even called out your name.”
“He said! He said! He’s just making excuses for his own bad behavior!”
“I told you I remembered part of it on my own.”
“It sounds to me like you wanted him, not me.” She turned the Corvette north on the 405 freeway, alert to traffic but driving like a bat out of hell.
“You see! That’s just why he had you leave the room, to tell me privately. He figured you’d think that!”
“He had me leave the room because I would have called him a fucking liar for getting you to think it was your fault.”
“He didn’t get me to think that. He told me I was more passionate than I had ever been before. I was always inhibited with him but not with you. Doesn’t that tell you anything?”
“Yeah, what it tells me is that you had enough booze in you to let loose and go after it and that if I was in your head at all, it was an afterthought because of the guilt.”
“I don’t remember the sex part, Bette!”
“Isn’t that convenient!”
“It’s the truth. The whole thing is the truth.”
“No, Sissee. The truth is that he kissed you and you kissed him back and then you fucked each other and you got pregnant. Now, that’s the fucking truth!”
I looked out the side window, away from her, totally exasperated. Now I knew I was in really big trouble. When it was assumed Howie had taken advantage of me, she had only him to blame. Now that she knew I participated, to her I was just as guilty as him. A few minutes went by. A few miles passed. There were cars and there were buildings but I did not see them. There was the ever present brown air but it did not register. I knew I was on the verge of crying again but I fought it down. Then I turned to her and asked:

This chapter made my heart ache for sissee. i can sympathize with bette’s feelings but i could “feel” sissees helplessness she bought and prepared the meal for bette, hoping for the best. i luv this story. thanks
u know as much as i luv bette and tina, and bette and helena, i have really grown to luv these two together, and it is so gut wrenching to read this happening to them, but i am addicted to each chapter, and i honestly can’t wait for more!!!
Hi there great story. I really feel with sissee but I can understand Bette side too. I mean her world just turned upside down and a diner well that is sweet of sissee but that would be the last thing on my mind. I hear you think but sissee life turned upside down to, that’s right but she had time to think about it, to get use to the idea. Sissee shouldn’t worry about Bette not wanting her child. She loves her and she would love that child like her own. She just can’t stand that idiot. Maybe sissee can talk to her take a little bit more control just walk into that room and “force” Bette into a talk. Tell her what she feels, how she wished there lifes turned out, like how she saw there family bette’s child. Maybe Bette will open up a little. Maybe I’m not making anysence but I think it’s a great story!!! please post soon.
Gooooodddddd! Bette Porter is so infuriating. She’s so Alpha. If I were Sissee I wouldn’t baby her anymore. Love of my life or not, I couldn’t live with a temper like that. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Sissee would be better off on her own. This chapter really ticked me off, can you tell? LOL! Great job Sissee!
Annieb69, Yes, we all love Bette and Tina together but ths story started before they even met. The problem was that readers encouraged me to continue the saga of SissBette and so it will move into TLW storyline eventually. Thank you for your comment.
colenickel, Thank you for your comment. I like that you are here with us. I have been out of town so don’t have much time for commenting. I just wanted to say though that Sissee prepared a special meal for Bette to keep herself busy and at the same time she hoped it would please Bette. However, it did not turn out very well.
September, Thank you so very much for your comments. I appreciate the suggestions as you would like to see it play out but Bette was not blind to Howie’s sincerety even though she gave him a bad time. Her heart is heavy right now and she wants to do the right thing for Sissee. We will just have to see what she has in mind as we near the end of the After Yale sequence.
kbergin47, Sorry you were ticked off at Bette in this chapter. I guess it’s a crapshoot. Some are cheering her on and other’s see another point of view. That’s why I so appreciate the comments, to know what my readers are thinking. As usual, thanks for your continued interest here.
