The Adventures Of Bette Porter and Sissee Gardner Schmidt After Tina (Part 1, Chapter 1)
PART ONE: ORANGE GROVE, CALIFORNIA
Chapter 1
It was nearly midnight when the telephone rang. Howie and I had been sleeping but were awakened by the urgent sound. I heard him reach for it, anticipating a not unusual nocturnal call from work, and say, in a sleepy voice, “Yeah?”
He listened and then said, “Hold on.”
He handed the phone to me and said, “It’s Bette Porter.”
I took the phone with apprehension. I knew she was in Canada. The whole Planet crowd was up there for Shane and Carmen’s wedding. Why would she be calling me at this hour?
“Hello?” I said, with trepidation.
“Sissee?” she asked in what appeared to be a troubled voice, “I need to talk to you.”
In a quiet, soft voice, I said, “Hold on, let me go to the office phone.”
I told Howie to hang up when I got there. I hurried through the house, to get to my office so I would not disturb the kids or keep Howie awake. I lifted the phone in there and told Howie to hang up.
“What’s wrong?” I asked her. “Where are you?”
“Just outside of Whistler, heading for Vancouver………..”
“At this time of night?”
“I’ve got the baby with me and I’m going to take her home.”
“Does Tina know it?”
“By now she does.”
“My God Bette, what are you doing?”
“I don’t know Sis.” I could tell she was crying softly. “I don’t know.”
“You can’t just TAKE Angelica away from Tina.”
“But I don’t want to lose her,” she said with crackling emotion. “I don’t want…… lose my baby.”
“Why do you think you’ll lose her?”
“Because I told Joyce Wishnia to file a brief of intent to petition for sole custody of Ang….. She did and it got faxed to Tina’s lawyer who faxed it to her at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.”
“Oh for Christ sake!”
“Exactly! I had spent some quality time earlier with Tina and Angie and……. were great but after she got that fax, both…… and Henry lashed out at me.”
The connection was awful. It was in and out.
“Listen to me,” I said. “Is there a place along the road where you can pull over and stop. You’re breaking up!"

kbergin47, You have a great Sunday too! I just wanted you to know, since you are so good about posting, that I am going on an 11-day trip but I am taking my laptop which works off my cell. The problem is that I will be going into the California mountains and I hope my reception there will be better than Bette had up in Whistler. So, if there are no chapters during that time, that is the reason why. It could happen but I am taking future chapters with me to post if I can. Regards, my friend.

I love your creative work, Sissee, thanks for writing such good stories. I thoroughly enjoy the previous one and read the whole 8 parts in a few days. I am a tibette fan but I love the way you put Sissee in Bette’s life, intertwining new stories of B & S in between TLW stories. Love it, Love it. You are one of few best writers here on this fan fic site. Enjoy your holidays in the next 11 days, and I am looking forward to reading more of your adventures with Bette in the future.
Bette’s Bette, What strikes me about your post is that it seems so genuine and sincere. I am very grateful for your encouragement. I was scared about having an After Tina story in a place where there are so many devoted TiBetters but it seemed by mentioning “Henry’s” name, I get a free pass. Yes, I try to “intertwine” Bette and Sissee’s story with TLW. Thanks for realizing that. There will be much more of TLW characters as the story progresses. I am very happy you are with us and hope to see you here again.
Thanks for the post Sissee. I was hoping for it all morning. I’m so glad Bette called Sis & she was able to talk her into returning Angie. I know how hard it was for her. I’m also wondering what’s going to happen to “them” after Tina. Have a great Sunday!
