The Adventures Of Bette Porter And Sissee Gardner Schmidt After Tina (Part 1, Chapter 2)

The Adventures Of Bette Porter And Sissee Gardner Schmidt After Tina (Part 1, Chapter 2)

    PART ONE: ORANGE GROVE, CALIFORNIA

    Chapter 2

I watched as scattered people came in to pick up their luggage. I searched for Bette in the crowd and when I finally saw her my heart did flip flops. She did not see me at first but an instant smile came to my lips. She just radiated over and above everyone else. She had on a red turtleneck sweater, the classic cable knit type that fit her seductively, showing off the contours of her upper body. She also wore black slacks and heeled boots. She was holding a heavy jacket and had a black purse slung over her shoulder.

And that hair. How I love that hair, puffed out in a mass of dark auburn curls. She was as beautiful as ever, having matured with grace, style and chic. I saw her big brown eyes crinkle when she saw me, showing those character lines that were starting to etch at the sides of her face and I saw a tight smile cross her mouth.

The smile left however when she walked into my open arms with what seemed to be relief. In fact, the first thing she said was, “Am I ever glad to see you.”

The hug was long and warm. She smelled heavenly, like a bouquet of mixed flowers. When she stepped back I asked her if she was okay. She hung her head a moment, shaking it and then looked away saying, “It’s just so hard…..” I could see her lips tremble.

“I know,“ I told her, quickly.  I asked her how things were with the Planet posse up in Whistler. She told me about Shane standing up Carmen at their wedding, that Alice and Lara were a new item, that Kit was eating for two, that Jenny found a new girl friend and that Peggy Peabody had cut Helena out of her payroll.

While we waited for her luggage I changed the subject, wanting her to think of something else.
“My God,” I said, looking for the humor in all that drama, as we headed out the door toward parking. “It sounds like a cliff hanger for a soap opera!”

    1. The reception must be good, hence the post. Thanks Sissee for thinking of us even on your vacation. I think Bette going to Maui with Sissee is an excellent idea. She does need time to regroup. I didn’t realize Sissee’s kids were practically grown, time’s getting away from me a little bit. Have fun!

    2. Thanks for posting even though you are on vacation. I was glad to see your post. I’m enjoying this story very much and I am glad that Bette is determined to get to see Angie again.

    3. Bette will come back from Maui with Tina leaving Her boy toy and will be single. Joyce will fight for Bette to get Angie part time. thanks for posting on your vacation.

    4. Sissee, this is really a short chapter (3 pages only, to be exact). I can’t wait to see what’s going on when Bette goes to Maui with Sissee. You are so good in getting Jennifer Beals’ real talent – photography – into the story. Bette will also be a good photographer, as you indicated in the story. When I read your first adventure series, I read it all within a few days (because I couldn’t stop reading them -so interesting storylines with different places mentioned), I guess I have to be patient from now on! :-) Thanks again for entertaining us fans even when you are on vacation.

    5. Now that this story has gone into known territory, I realize what this is all about – it’s The L Word Zelig – Sissee inserting herself into L herstory.

    6. I, like kbergin, didnt realize sissees kids had grown up. its amazing the different paths life can lead 2 people down…here sissees kids are almost grown and bettes raising a toddler. i hope they get to go on the trip. sounds like the kind of vacation i need lol

    7. colenickel, I think we’d all love to go to Maui. For me it would be a third trip because I have a niece who lives there and she is a gracious host. I truly do love Maui and you will soon see why. It has so much to offer. Thanks for your comment. Won’t you please enjoy the island with Bette and Sissee……….

    8. This is good, this is great, this is amazing and I have a feeling it’s going to be wicked. *sigh* Bette in bathing suit, Bette in a white blouse dancing under a waterfall…sigh okay okay I will stop with my day dreaming ;) lol So Sissee and Bette back together? I hope so!! Let them have fun on Maui and when they get back. Tina and the H factor agree to let Bette have her bunny now and then. And Howie well Howie has someone too…so everyone is happy and in love.

    9. September, Thanks for your post. Bette and Sissee alone together on Maui? And then they go back To California and everything goes back to the way it was? Bette and Tina? Sissee and Howie? No, that’s not how it will work out but I hope you will read on to see what happens with our adventurous pair. Thanks for the good wishes about having a good time. I am, except it is getting pretty damn hot up here in the California foothills. Lots of vineyards to visit though, where we are in 49er’s country. Beautiful estates, lovely flowers, and a lot of tourists, each of us seeking space.

    10. Bette’s Babe. I was notified that you had emailed me. I responded and it’s caught in Outgoing mail. The same for kbergin. I see there is a letter stuck there too written to her last year. Did either of you ever hear from me? We will have to do something about that. Thanks for that lovely email. I appreciated it very much. Oh, and this is really not that short of a chapter. It depends on what the content is. If I do a lot of dialogue, those one-liners take up a lot of space.

    11. kbergin47, My cell phone connection to my laptop does not work because of where we are. I am using the local wireless. At first I figured it was going to be a long week here without the internet but I made a connection. Yes, it will be good for Bette to get away and go to Maui with Sissee. To refresh your memory on the timeline. Bette and Sissee graduated from Yale in 1985. Kyle was born in 1986 so in 2006, he is 20 and out of the nest. Charlie is 18 and Mary is 17, bothe seniors. Thanks for being here.
