The Adventures Of Bette Porter And Sissee Gardner Schmidt After Tina (Part 2, Chapter 6)
I blinked at her a few times and then said, “Why do you think I do it?”
She smiled. I nodded with a smile back, then I told her, “You can use the bathroom first, I have to call my kids.”
We had a quick breakfast on the porch with our hostess and then took the top down on the Jeep. It was a glorious, cloudless day. It was perfect for a complete island helicopter flight and what an astonishing trip it was. Every superlative Thesaurus ever dreamed up, applied. It was only an hour long but we saw the whole island from the air, just Bette and I with a lady pilot named Alani, who was very informed about all things Maui.
Neither Bette now I had ever been in a helicopter before and we found it was a thrilling experience. It was like we smiled from take off to landing. It was noisy but we were given a headset providing open communication between Bette and I as well as our pilot. We leaned over each other to see out one window or the other with both of us snapping photographs. It turned into great cozy fun.
We saw the awesome Haleakala Crater up over 10,000 feet. When we drove up there on Thursday morning it was shrouded with clouds. Now we could look down and see it plain and clear. It was like another planet, cone-studded with streaks of red, yellow, gray and black. Alani swooped down into it and hovered over one of the cones, saying “It’s summer here every day and winter every night.”
We then descended down over the Hana Rainforest, located on the windward slopes of Haleakala where she told us that the annual rainfall ranges from 120 inches to 400 inches or more. There was waterfall after waterfall with lush, green terrain of mango, guava and bamboo all the way to the rugged coastal cliffs and the ultimate ocean.
Alani turned the chopper over the azure blue water and flew to the leeward slope of Haleakala where there was a dry forest zone. It was truly amazing to know there were actual cacti on Maui. We had seen them along the roads and could hardly believe there would be such vegetation on a tropical island.
We saw the isthmus, the cities and then the dramatic valleys of the West Maui Mountains interlaced with more cascading waterfalls and pools so clear we could almost see the bottoms. This was the really dense side of the island, pretty much undeveloped with roads so bad one must sign a promise not to go on them when renting a car.
When we landed we had an early lunch which would be followed by an afternoon of snorkeling and then a party at the Fuller’s B & B. We were rapidly finding out that Maggie was a real kick. She had a wicked sense of humor and apparently loved to party. She told us that every Friday night they have an open house pot luck dinner with a theme. Tonight was Mexican and she said that there would be plenty of Margaritas as well as a local appetizer called Maui Wowie.

I really am in awe of your writing now more than when I first read the story. Your attention to the geographic detail is amazing. Some readers are not interested b/c it doesn’t involve Tina w/Bette but if one can get past that idea and be more open and accepting, they will realize how exceptionally good is this story and your writing. Keep posting, Sissee.
So descriptive and beautiful, I always look forward to your posts. Thanks for writing.
azmama, Ahh, you’re my new best friend which says a lot since we are by now, old friends. You were the one who inspired me to try fanfic, so I am very happy you came along for the ride. Thank you very much for your continued encouragement. It means alot to me.
sarah_schuster, Thank you very much for your kind words.
I always welcome a new post from you with delight. I love the way you write. There is somekind of a serenity in the way you describe and write your story. Pretty realistic of Bette to say that some people will definitely get hurt if they go on this way. It is not possible to go through life without sometimes hurting people you love. I like to way Sissy and Bette’s relationship is growing right now. Thank you for posting.
brouhaha, Wow! I really am touched as you try to describe how my writing affects you. Thank you for feeling the “serenity”. As for Bette and Sissee’s relationship growing deeper and deeper, that’s exactly what I mean to convey. Something is building and we all know what it is. In the real world it’s called love and the expression of it. In fanfic, it’s called NC-17. Have a great day!
Sissee, I am so glad you have posted another chapter today. I know this story was done years ago, as indicated by azmama’c comment. I wish I have known you before, then I would know what the storyline would be for the rest of the adventure. Anyhow, I like the idea of B & S talk in the middle of the night, and B & T sleeping together (even without any intimate action). It just melts my heart when I feel B is loved by S so much. She definitely deserve it after so much hurt happened to her, especially re: Angie, and her previous love of S.
Oops, I wish there were an edit button, I need to make two to three corrections on my previous comment, I meant azmama’s comment, and B & S sleeping together. Please forgive my grammer as English is not my first language. (Also, I need to add an ‘s’ on the word deserve).
My Dear Bette’s Babe, It’s okay. Don’t worry about the error. I knew what you meant and I am just happy to see you take the time to make comments.I can’t tell you what is coming up in future “After’s”, but I wrote a series after each TLW season starting in 2005, that means there are four. We’re in the second one here.
LOL I noticed the ad at the bottom for Maui Oceanfront Condos! on you last post. I think they thought your doing a great job promoting Maui so we will take Sissee as our private agent ;P Great update. Bette is still fighting to much with herself all through it’s understanable it’s human. But it makes me impatient i want them togehter lol, I can’t wait for the next post.
I just read what you wrote for lb18. Your a great, good writer don’t let anyone els make you think different. It’s just the fact most people believe in the love Tina and Bette have and because of that they can’t picture Bette nor Tina with someone els. But that has nothing to do with your writing ability. It’s a great story and well writen. You know I’m a great B/T fan but in this case I will love to see S/T together.
Azmama, Sissee does “center Bette”. I like that way of putting it and yes, I did have a great 4th of July weekend with fireworks on both Friday and Saturday nights. Lots of food and drink with a restful Sunday. So it was great!
kbergin47, I know what everyone is anticipating and it’s coming very soon.
September, Reference to that Hawaiian ad below, it seems to keep changing but still appropriate to be on this page. Thanks for all those other good things you said, regarding my writing. I wish you would have been around earlier when I was getting put down. I suspect you might have stuck up for me but I am always gentle with my critics, hoping to win them over. It would please me to no end to still hear from them in a good way.
Sissee, you are telling me there are 2-3 more adventures you wrote about B & S? Wow, I can’t wait to read them all. I know I have to be patient here. After reading so many chapters of B & S, I start to believe Bette would be the one who makes the next move. Sissee is always there waiting for Bette to initiate things! :-) Bette is lucky to have her as a friend all these years.
Bette’s Babe, Yes, there are four Adventure stories and all of them will be posted here before the last TLW show begins in 2009. The first was called After Yale, the second is After Tina and I can’t really tell you what the next two are called because it would give the story line away.
azmama is right–this is a great story. It took me a while to warm up to it, but now I’m hooked! Thanks!
Hey! I just now noticed the ad at the bottom of this page for Maui Oceanfront Condos! It’s nice to see this Maui story has picked up a Maui ad. I wonder if that is on purpose or a coincidence?
brouhaha’s comment is spot on. You do write B & S’s interaction w/serenity and love. Sissee is always completely accepting of Bette. She centers Bette. They have a wonderful, soon to be more wonderful, relationship. Hope you had a good July 4th.
ld18, Good! I’m glad you’re hooked and I appreciate your letting me know it. I always consider the comments, good or bad, as my royalties for writing the story and as you can see, I’m not a wealthy person. I’ve made some progress though because those who were hard on me have not been around lately.
Sissee’s being very patient with Bette. Thanks for the helicopter experience.
