    The party.

    She placed her drink down on some surface without much attention before she excused herself, and made her way through the crowd.

    There was no bravery or choice as her feet led her closer – the music vibrating through the floor and in the air – but only desire.

    The slow and steady beat worked to calm her racing heart, but nothing could calm her excitement – the rush was tingling through her. She desired to be close to Tina, and to be honest with her at last. This was it. No more waiting.

    When she made her way past the swarms of laughing, intoxicated women, she just stood in front of Tina for a moment. They looked at each other. “Tina.”

    The other women looked to Bette, checked back with Tina, and then Bette again.

    “Can I … talk to you?”

    It didn’t take the other women long to excuse themselves, sensing the powerful chemistry between them, however conflicted. Bette felt like they were alone, and she took a big step forward, finding the strength to look directly into Tina’s eyes. She didn’t need Tina to speak, just to listen.

    “I know that this might sound crazy … and I just have no idea what you’re gonna say, but … I have something I need to tell you.”

    She got one word in response. “Me?”

    Bette pressed on. “Tina … I’ve … fallen for you … that’s the best way I can put it. I mean, at first, I was confused, and then I was frustrated, but then … there’s this whole other side to you that I started to realize and then I just couldn’t deny it to myself anymore.”

    Tina was so stunned that she actually did forget to breathe. She felt paralyzed, trying to regain her self control so that she could speak and ease Bette’s mind. Did Bette even wonder if she felt the same way? Hadn’t it been painfully obvious?

    “I think all this arguing … well, it’s been partly my fault … I’ve been struggling, and …” Bette pushed her hands into the pockets of her pants, trying to find the right words. “I know it’s not the right way to deal with any of this, but every time I see you … every time I see you, I just …”

    8. love this story. i enjoyed this chapter i like the pace of thing between the two. its hard to express your feelings and to restrain yourself from becoming a tangled mess, i.e in Bette’s bed. cant wait for more. caramel

    12. Wonderfully sweet story. So happy they have had a chance to talk and that most of the awkwardness is gone. Now they can see one another again without the bashfulness and really try to connect. It must have been a really tough situation for the ladies you mentioned in your AN. And I’m sure that their friends heaved a sigh of relief when they did get together. Would like to have been there to see it in person.
