“Sweet Jesus, what’s wrong with me?”
Bette dropped her head on her desk as she held the phone to her ear.
“I almost asked her to dance in my lap, Alice!”
She could hear Alice’s light laughter on the other end. “As gross as that is that you actually found Tina attractive, it’s also hilarious that you embarrassed yourself so much. It was so brutal!”
“Thanks,” Bette smiled, rolling her eyes. “I still can’t believe I actually said that. Well, almost said it, I guess.”
“And to Tina?! Eew.”
“Why is that so crazy?” Bette asked, twirling a strand of her curly hair as she brought the glass of water to her mouth. “I mean … she’s … umm …”
“Umm … guess,” Alice giggled to herself. She loved to be mischievous.
“Alice.”
“Gueeess.”
“Oh, don’t tell me you’re into her,” Bette cringed, waiting for a response.
“EEW! Okay, okay! You win! She’s my cousin.”
“What?!” Water spewed from Bette’s mouth all over her floor just before gasping.
“Yeah. I must have forgot. Whatever. It’s gross because she’s my cousin, you weirdo. My cousin.”
“Alice! I didn’t know!” Bette’s mind was racing, and her confusion rising. “But … she’s … your cousin? The blond … umm … the nice looking girl?”
“Hey, I can hear where you’re going with that, and I don’t like your tone, missy.”
Bette had to laugh as she looked for a towel to clean up her mess. “I’m only kidding, Alice.”
“Hey, at least you found a girl you like.”
“I didn’t say I liked her …” Bette sighed with confusion, battling with her mind and her heart. She didn’t know what to feel, or what to tell Alice she felt, but she knew what might help. “I haven’t really seen her, though. You know? I think that maybe I should give her another chance.”
“Yeah, she’s been acting like a total freak around you!” Alice laughed.
“Don’t be so cruel,” Bette smiled, finally sitting back in her seat again. “She is your cousin, Alice.”
“That doesn’t mean I have to treat her like some delicate flower!”
Bette couldn’t help but laugh at Alice’s insanity. “Now I’m starting to see why she acts the way she does. You.”

They are so dazed and confused and goofy funny.
Love this story and to know that it really did happen to two people that fell in love and have a life together is wonderful. Life is often that. We meet someone and don’t know just how to proceed to talk with them and we lose that connection because of the shyness or just not knowing if you should try to talk with them because you don’t know if you’re gonna get your head knocked off or what will happen. Keep the chapters coming. Enjoying it. Hope our two can get everything cleared up and start to date. Thanks for posting.
