The Canvas of Our Life…Ch 9

“Don’t say your sorry. Of course I don’t think you’re crazy. I was just worried about you.Tina do you think you can talk to me now? What is going on?”

“It’s my father Bette, he’s in the hospital. I talked to him earlier today and he was having some back problems. He actually missed work because of it. He never misses work for anything. I told him I would drive up there, but he insisted that it was nothing. His doctor was running some tests which I thought was odd considering it was back pain. Then his friend called me and told me that he collapsed and was rushed to the emergency room. She said she would tell me more when I got there and that he was stable. Bette, I should’ve gone today. I was being so selfish. I wanted to see you again so badly that I let him convince me to wait until next week.”

Bette assumes that is que enough for her and takes Tina, who has begun to cry again, into her arms and holds her.

“Tinayou cannot blame yourself. It sounds like your father is a very strong willed person. How could you have known it was serious. You’ll be on your way soon, it’s going to be ok T, I promise.

I’m going to drive you, and I won’t take no for an answer.” Bette announced with confidence

“Bette, I appreciate it, truly I do. But that isn’t necessary. You hardly know me, I don’t expect you to drive me almost 3 hours and sit in a hospital for god knows how long. I’ll be ok, really.”

“Listen Tina, I may hardly know you. But you said it yourself, we have a connection. There is something greater than both of us pulling us together. For whatever reason it is, I am going with it. Even if we are simply meant to be friendsI want to be there for you. I want to do this for youwith you. I’ll get a room and wait there and you can call me when you need me. I could use some rest anyhow and of course you are welcome too.”

Tina raises an eyebrow at Bette

“I’ll get a double of course” Bette replies a little embarrased.
