Ignoring Shane’s protestations Bette continued “In short I need you to get me a visit with him at Pentonville gaol today; I need to speak with him and get a feel for what he knows whilst he’s still on remand and before I officially take the case. I can’t stop thinking of poor Carmen Hallstead suffering in gaol she won’t help herself and somehow I need to know I’ve explored every avenue for her.”
“Bette, I have to say again I’m not happy about you doing this. Peter Carey is a very bad guy he makes the Kray twins seem like Mother Theresa!”
“Shane, you know I’ll do this with you or without you” Said Bette quietly.
Tina was mesmerised this was the Bette of the courtroom, no bluster, no fuss just a calm determination almost lulling you in to agreement.
Shane tapped her pencil on the desk and chewed her bottom lip and said “Then I suppose you’ll be better off with me. I need to make some phone calls, why don’t you and Tina go off to the restaurant? Order my usual and I’ll see you there in about twenty minutes or so.”
Bette and Tina were escorted to the lifts and made their way to the restaurant which was about a five minute walk from Scotland Yard. Bette was in a pensive mood and Tina thought she’d try to lift her out of it.
“So Bette, two meals in less than 24 hours people will be talking about us.”
“Let them talk! This is the best Turkish food outside of
“That’s nice.” said Tina. “That you consider me your friend.” Tina reached over and patted Bette’s hand. This seemed to lift Bette’s spirits.
“Actually Tina there’s something I want to ask you.” Bette said almost shyly.
“Ask away Bette, the worst I can say is ‘no’.”
“I’ve been thinking; if the appeal goes ahead would you like to work with me on the case?”
Without any hesitation Tina said “Yes.”
“Good, that’s good we’ll sort the details out later. Now let’s order.”
After they’d ordered the food Tina said, “Thank you for the opportunity Bette and it also means I won’t have spend too much time with the frightful Helena Peabody QC!”

Of course Bette is in trouble… was there ever any question about that. ;) I can’t wait for your description of Tina in her swim suit though… and please don’t forget to do the same for Bette. When Tina said the worst answer is a ‘no’, I was reminded of the 6th episode of . But luckily Tina’s answer is ‘yes’.Being a lawyer is a good reason why Bette doesn’t open up easily.
