The Honeymoon – 81/2 months earlier

Tina’s murder wasn’t premeditated as sociopathic individuals rarely plan ahead. Jodi’s murderous action of pushing Tina overboard in the crocodile infested waters was a momentary impulse that she’d acted upon. She felt no guilt or remorse at the death of her wife of only two months. Marrying Tina was just a means of acquiring social standing, money, and the benefits and privileges of a very wealthy lifestyle. With Tina out of the way she could now move freely to her next victim. Tina’s nightmare would have ended mercifully in death but Kelly’s was just beginning.

“You bloody idiot I warned you about going off by yourselves. You bloody amateurs. I wish I’d never laid eyes on you.”

“It was an accident Joe I keep telling you. She was photographing the sunset then she saw the croc and leaned over to get a better shot. We hit a log and she slipped and fell in. Who could tell anything like that would ever happen?”

    “I should have.”

“Joe all I’m interested in is finding my wife. What do we do now?”

“I’ll call Darwin on the radio but they won’t have a sheriff coming here or setting up a search before morning.”

“What chance is there of finding her alive?”

“If you really love your wife Ms. Lerner you better pray she’s not.”

“The look on her face. God Jodi how could you?”

“How could I what Kelly? You saw. It was an accident?”

Kelly just stared at Jodi not quite comprehending what she was hearing.

“Wasn’t it Kelly? She slipped when we hit the log and there was nothing we could do to save her. It was a tragic accident. Right? Right?”

    “Yes. It was an accident.”

“Good girl… Now it’s just you and me. We’ll get through this together. Here have a drink. It will calm your nerves and help you sleep. The sheriff will be here in the morning and they will start the search for Tina’s body.”

“Do you really think she’s dead?”

“How could she not be … here have another drink. It’ll be OK.”

Kelly drank the strong liquor in several gulps. It burned her throat going down but she didn’t care. She needed something; anything to numb the pain; to help her to forget. She melted into Jodi’s strong embrace and tried to forget the look in Tina’s eyes as she took the last gasps for breath before she succumbed to a watery grave. No matter how hard she tried to block them out Tina’s hazel eyes wrought with pain, terror, hurt, fear, panic, distress, accusation kept appearing in her mind’s eye whenever she closed her own. She drained the dark brown liquid and wiped the tears. She had to be strong; after all a woman in love would do anything for her lover right …
