“Bones?” Bette raised her eyebrows.

“I call you that in my head, like a nickname.” Tina said.

“Oh.” Bette smiled a little smile. “I never had a nickname.”

“Well, than this is your first.” She said. Bette smiled.

“It’s my turn I suppose?” Tina  nodded. “Well my full name is Bette Vera Annika Porter. I am 27. I have an older sister, Kathy Dora Porter. She doesn’t want to tell me her other middle name. I have an older brother, Don Levi Leonard Porter but I don’t have contact with him anymore. He left the house when he was 16. I was 11, he was angry with me and my sister but I don’t know why. My father and my mother disappeared shortly after that so I don’t have contact with them either. Basically, my only family left is my sister.” Bette told this story very cool and distant. Tina found that weird but didn’t say anything.

“So, you don’t have a husband or anything?” Tina questioned.

“No, I don’t.” Bones answered.

“Do you want kids some day?” Tina wanted to know. She drank from her beer.

“I don’t know. I never thought about it. Do you want more kids?”

“Yes, I do but only when Seth is a little older.” Tina said. “Do you have any nieces or nephews?”

“No, but I do have a Godchild. Alice and Dana’s daughter, Veronica.” Bette told her.

“Oh, nice. I’ve noticed you are good with kids.” Tina complimented. Bette looked down.

“A little, it’s nice to talk to someone who’s just… simple.” Bette tried to explain.

“I can understand that. You are always buried in work.”

“I’m not buried.” Bette said. Tina sighed.

“It was metaphorically, Bones.”

“Oh, well, I don’t understand.”

“It’s okay.” Tina said and looked at her watch. “Well, I should go home. Tomorrow I have to pick Seth up from his gran at 8AM so…”

“I understand.” Bette said. They paid and then walked out of the café.

“I’ll see you on Monday then?” Tina asked.

“Yeah.” Bette told her. The brown-haired woman felt like she wanted to hug Tina but it was inappropriate to do that, wasn’t it? Tina had the same feelings but just held her hand out. Bette grinned and shook Tina’s hand, the familiar warmth of touching each other spread over their bodies.
