    The Letter ch. 3

Each year since I left, I have had a letter for you. It’s about time I explain them because you’re old enough to understand them. I wrote them to you with love. I never intended them to sadden you on your birthday and if they do, I am so sorry. I wanted you to know that I loved you and would always be there for you, if only with advice.

When I found out I was sick and would probably not have much time left, there were three things that made me sad. The first was that I would not get to see you and Alyssa grow up. I had waited for years to have children and Momma and I had tried so hard to have you that you were our little blessings that we loved completely. I never thought that I would miss each milestone in your life. I am sorry for leaving you so soon but in leaving you, I left these letters to you as a way of letting you know each year, those things that I would have tried to help you learn.

The second thing that made sad was knowing that I would not have long to love Momma. When she and I met, she brought such happiness into my life. Each day with her was a joy and the thought of no longer having that joy, saddened me. The only thing that made me feel better about knowing that I was going to have to leave her was that I knew that I treasured her each day that I had with her and never took our love for granted.

The final thing that saddened me was the family that I had dreamed about was not going to be. But Em, family is what you make it and we gave you a good one with your aunts. Love and cherish them because they love you so much.

On your 8th birthday, I told you the story of how Momma and I picked the donor that helped create you. I told you of our love for one another and our desire to start a family. I wanted you to understand that although we chose for our family to be different than maybe that of your friends, it was done with love and hope that the future would be kind to you. On your 10th birthday I told you about your grandparents. Although not in your life, I wanted you to know where you came from and about your family. My parents may not have accepted me being with Momma because she was a woman but they were still my parents and I loved them to the end. On your last birthday, I tried to explain to you a lot. One thing was why I made the decision to forgo treatment when my cancer came back. I wanted you to know that you have to fight in life for what you want and need but you also have to look at the big picture and decide for yourself in what way you want to fight. I wanted to be able to enjoy the time I had left with my family. I also told you about periods. I hope you’ve forgiven me for that one.  For this birthday, I want to tell you about love. Don’t say yuck until you finish reading.

    1. Even if Bette dosen’t meet Tina in this story I will love to read it , it brings a lot of memories back to me that are sad but it lets me relive them without feeling like I am going to lose control and be left in despair. It is helping me work through some things I should have a long time ago. Thank you. PPS

    2. You absolutely continue to amaze me with your incredible storytelling. Your talent with words and dialogue is so good. I love all of your stories and thank you for posting so soon.

    3. I don’t think I’ve cried as hard while reading a fan fic since Jobadge’s “Those Adoring Eyes”. This is such a wonderful story. I am looking forward to reading all of your future posts. Thanks!

    4. NAG, you sure know how to bring on the tears. I haven’t stopped shedding tears until just now. I read the into and all the chapters straight through and cried thru each one of them. Jeez. The story is so beautiful but yet so sad at the same time. The letters are so on point for a young girl. That is something a mother should do whether she still lives or has passed on for her children. Such a wonderful thing to do. This story should be your book to be published, you have an awesome talent. I do love the way you think and write. Hopefully Tina will meet Bette in this story and even if she doesn’t this will be one whale of a story. You’re awewsome lady. Thanks for sharing. Post when you can.

    5. NAG, between ‘WOO’ and this story, I have gone through lots of Kleenex boxes. My eyes stay crimson when you are writing. This chapter is amazing. It really struck a nerve and brought back my personal loss as a young child. The 12 year letter is heart breaking, yet beautiful. Trisha’s love for Bette has set the bar. I hope that you introduce Tina to Bette, because only she could surpass that bar. I love this story, thank you.

    6. NAG you make me cry and I think you like that. My mom passed before I turned 3 and for some reason I kinda feel like Emma is a real person and I’m so glad for her and her sister. If your going with as many chapters as WOO you better let me know now as I will buy stock in the tissue company. Thank you, Md

    7. [Okay, Okay…I know I said I wouldn’t but OMG this was just soooooooo good…I had to tell you] Nag, oh nag, I cried alllllllllllllll the way thru this chapter…and I haven’t stopped. I can’t remember now if you were one before, but now you definitely are: one of the very elite few authors on the site who have reduced me to a bawling baby. I mean that as the utmost compliment! Gawd! And you just had to mention the period thang! Gawd again! Reminded me of my own mom when I was just 11 I think…back in that day…well, there were no adhesive pads and you had to use a garter to attach the pad to…Mom showed me how to use it (before I needed it) and then told me, in a state of embarrassment (hers or mine, I’m not sure) and concern that she just wanted me to have the garter and know how to use it should something happen to her before it was my time. (I then tucked the garter away in my drawer until it was needed.) Gawd! It upset me then that she said that…and it still upsets me…but it’s a good memory too…cuz I know she loved me. *Completely wet face right now* … *Wiping, wiping* … The first words you ever *said* to me, nag, were “You Suck!” … Well, now I tell you: “You Suck!” :P :D pfffffffffffffffft Later!

    8. NAG, I have such respect for you and your writing. That letter was powerful and very moving. This whole story is incredible, I don’t know why you thought we wouldn’t give it a chance…it’s beautiful!

    9. It’s way too early for me to be crying this early in the morning! beautiful letter… how can you write these without crying yourself? :)PPS

    10. Wow. What a moving letter and what an interesting premise. Thank you for coming up with this story, NAG. Please continue to unravel this tale. Thanks again! :>
