The life and times of Bette Porter chpt 1 of 5

“The life and times of Bette Porter” chapter 1 of 5

                                              Chapter 1

Senior year was coming faster than I could throw it. Summer was over along with the late night parties and the late morning bed rests. I laughed to myself and reminse of the years before. The times with my two best friends Alice and Shane. They’re my girls and we’ve been close since the first day I walked into Phys Ed class at UMass Boston. Boston was a good city to attend school in. The city was live and full of life filled with people from all types of nationalities.

I smile and jump to my feet stretching spreading my arms before me. I yarn while making my bed. I head into the bathroom immediately afterwards doing my morning business. As I stand before the mirror washing my body down I admire my beauty and how sexy I was. God I loved being a mixed breed. Having a black father and a white mother wasn’t as bad as I thought years before. it was interesting having to cultures to practice and to heritages to follow behind in. Being a child and growing up in the 80′s I was taunted alot and tantalized. Girls and boys would steal my things and I would have to bang(fight) with them to get them back.

My father put up with my nonchalant behavior for a few years after that. I would say by the time I reached my fifth grade year the year he decided that boarding school would be the next best option. And that’s when my mother stepped in and decided to give me another chance before my father’s decision was final. And believe me the chance didn’t come easy. I had yard and kitchen duty for 3 months including my usual chores and babysitting my younger siblings on Friday nights. I swear after that episode believe it or not I never acted up in school again. I thank my mother at times like this for pushing me and putting up with my childish behavior. Without her confidence in me, or her love that she installed in me gave me hope and faith to want to do better. And not just for her but for myself. If she wasn’t here I don’t know where I would be today.
