    “Ah come on Tina – don’t ya think all the Zen like calm is so –well un Porter. Tina – the old Bette would have killed Hen-dick with her bare hands — no — with one eyebrow. You have gone soft Porter “

    “Alice – yes the old me could have done that to Henry the nano-second he touch Tina but as you say that was the old Bette – the one who imploded. I do not intend to do the same with this rare second chance that I have. But Al just before you call me yellow – if he comes near Tina after the baby is born I will disembowel him – because nothing is going to come between T and me ever again “

     

    “Al – when you have a wife and a family like Bette and Tina soon will you will see what is and isn’t worth the effort of battle “

    “So what would you fight for Alice ? “ Shane asked

     

     

    “You four — five if you include the baby “ Alice replied instantly “ anyone who hurts my family gets me after them “

    “Ah Alice – there is a heart amid all the trivia lists “ Lara teased. Alice blushed a little and smiled warmly at the cook.

    Tina took a deep breath

    “I need to make an announcement “

    “Sure Tina –what’s up “

     

    Tina looked at Bette and was instantly reassured by the love and support that shone in Bette’s dark eyes

     

     

    “Its simple really – we went to the hospital this morning for Bette’s check up and for something else – for my first sonogram. I’m pregnant as well — in less than a year we will have two children “

    12. I am glad that Tina got that out of the way, but now all the glances and stares are going to take place. I wonder who will speak first. Helen, and Shane already know but the others don’t. Alice will jump to the conclusion that it is Henry’s spawn.

Shane’s rebel sensibilities; Alice’s funky funnies; Lara’s quiet constancy: Tina and Bette’s adoring looks and longing for each other and completeness when together.
