    THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD – Chapter 33

    Bette stood under the shower hoping to wake up soon with the help of the warm water. When she had stood still for a few minutes and almost fallen asleep twice she knew it was a failed tactic and she needed something more dramatic.

     

     

    Bracing herself she switched the dial on the shower and slowly counted 1-2-3-4-5-6-7. She had just started to say the word eight when the warm water switched to cold and her eyes flew open

     

    “Fucking shit that’s fucking cold “

     

     

    She counted again and when she had reached 25 she flicked the dial again and waited until the warm water returned – she was most certainly awake now. How insane was it that she needed a cold shower to wake her up at 7PM ? This baby was having the oddest effect on her body.

     

     

    The day had been special – one that neither would forget – they had arranged a joint appointment with Dr Hope and she had allowed the first view of Tina’s baby to be when Bette’s baby was also in view on the screen.

     

     

    Dr Jolston was delighted with Bette’s progress – her blood pressure was well under control and her son was beginning to look like he would need a reinforced crib when he arrived.

     

    Tina’s baby was barely visible – but visible it was all the same. Tina had taken the decision that she didn’t want to know the gender of her baby – -despite Bette telling her that it was definitely going to be a girl.

     

    Tina had been on a huge high after the hospital trip and they had gone shopping and finally come home to celebrate in a very private way and made love on and off for several hours – Tina being the beneficiary of a lot of orgasms from a loving and devoted Bette.

     

     

     

    They had finally fallen asleep and not woken up until 6:15 – the gang were due to gather at 7:30. All except Kit who had gone out of town to see Angus’s family — they’d tell them when they returned on Monday.

    12. I am glad that Tina got that out of the way, but now all the glances and stares are going to take place. I wonder who will speak first. Helen, and Shane already know but the others don’t. Alice will jump to the conclusion that it is Henry’s spawn.

Shane’s rebel sensibilities; Alice’s funky funnies; Lara’s quiet constancy: Tina and Bette’s adoring looks and longing for each other and completeness when together.
