The Performance of a Lifetime – Chapter 13

Jodi looked down and saw that the pool area was still deserted. The late morning Sun was reflected off the rippling water sending glimmers of light in all directions. The stretching chairs were ordered in neat little rows awaiting their usually boisterous users that had yet to make an appearance this morning.

Probably it was the wind that blew coolly or the grey clouds that were gathering that kept everyone away and warmly tucked inside the house. Or maybe the two days of constant partying were just catching up with everybody. Either way Jodi was thankful for the relative privacy as she started down the path to the pool.

Bette followed a couple of steps behind Jodi. She stayed silent though she knew it wouldn’t make a difference if she voiced her innermost thoughts out loud. She could yell out, curse Jodi for all the pain she had caused her and yet she didn’t find in her heart the slightest desire to do so.

Rapidly they reached the chairs and wordlessly they sat down sideways to face each other, a couple of feet separating them. Bette crossed her legs at her ankles and her arms in front of her chest.

Jodi looked at the woman in front of her and it felt like the first time she had laid eyes on the statuesque brunette, the same elegant posture, the same confident lift of her chin, the same intelligence in her eyes, the same devastating beauty. And like then she was attracted by the remoteness, by the indomitable fire.

“I wish we were two strangers in a bar and I could buy you a drink.” Jodi joked.

Bette arched her eyebrow and said coldly.

“You were the one who wanted to talk but if it’s alcohol you want I can ask for a bottle and leave you to it.”

“That’s not what I meant.” Jodi shook her head seriousness filling her voice. “I wish he hadn’t so much history between us weighting us down.”

    “That’s a futile wish.”

A long sigh escaped the artist’s lips.

“I know.” Jodi shook her head and then continued quickly. “I know I can’t erase anything I did…”

“No, you can’t.” There was finality to Bette’s voice that told Jodi her window of opportunity to reach the brunette was shrinking with each phrase she uttered.

    1. wow tina signing to bette and bette ran off cuz tina just completely overwhelmed her i hope!! someone needs to cool porter down and you should leave cliffhangers like this! love this story and how it’s unfolding!! :)PPS

    2. Gotta love Jenny’s running commentary…Way to go Tina, U r my hero…Janet give Jodi the old heave ho, that’s not love u feel, its martyrdom!!! Kick her to the side & find u some real lover!!! Great story. Don’t be gone too long.

    3. Lord please don’t let Bette go back to Jodi. Jesus, that would be horrible. I think she has fallen in love with Tina, so why the hell did she leave the room. She should have gone straight to Tina and kissed her till her toes curled. Love this story just like everyone else. Please let them stay together and tell Jodi to go soak her head and step off b—-. PPS

    4. Jenny finally said something I agree with…talk about dramatic intensity! Whew! Bette better be running because she is feeling so vulnerable. Ahh, the rose was such a sweet touch. Bette needs to step up now…and seal the deal. We need more wooing…PPS!

    5. i think jenny and jodi should run away together, they deserve each other LOL…this was brilliant, i hope Tina will be there for Bette…post soon

    6. Bette, where you going? Come back! Loved this, Sabina. Tina can woo me any day of the week … oh and Jenny is the funniest! Love how you’re using her in this story. Poor Janet, though. Looks like Jodi is just bad news. Can’t wait to see what transpires between our two lovebirds in the rain.

    7. Oh man, that was kind of mean leaving us wondering why Bette went out into the rain. Then you had Tina following her and we don’t know what happened. I sure hope that Tina will find Bette and they will be able to work out what each is feeling. Way to go Tina, go fight for your woman.

    8. I hope Tina is going to Bette and not misunderstanding. Bette doesn’t handle her emotions well in the best of circumstances, but it is time to quit running and grab onto the love Tina has for her with all her strength. AMAZING!!!!

    9. way to go Kennard.. Tina picked a perfect song to woo Bette. Great chapter and thank you Sabina, with so much anticipation on your next post..

    10. Wow… this was another great chapter, sabina. Jodi’s too late. I’m sure Bette misses the artists’ dinners, but Jodi isn’t an essential part of that… The song, the rose, Tina’s upping the stakes, but I don’t think she realizes that she’s already won. Please post soon, sabina. thanks

    11. LMAO! Jenny is so great in this story! I absolutely love this story and how you bring the drama to it. Please don’t leave us hanging too long!

    12. No offense, kinda agree with Jenny there. Not to include the scene that will reveal itself outside in the rain. Plus, I must admit, kinda like “Hero” too.

    13. I’m with Seahurst and her comment!… LOVE this story, especially with dramatic exits and cliffies like this one! But that means that you can’t leave us hang for too long… So, please please post soon. I’m looking forward to Tina catching up with Bette in the rain… Trusting you to make it all just fine for B&T. Somehow I have the feeling that for Bette, it’s less about not wanting to risk her heart again with Jodi, but more about having lost her heart to someone else, with absolutely no way nor will not get it back…;) Go Tina! Sweep her off her feet! And don’t worry, you had her at “It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Great great story Sabina, please post soon! ;)

    14. gaah, you just made me realize I’m a total sap, that was romantic and beautiful :))) Go get your woman Tina! On a sidenote, Jodi doesn’t deserve Janet who seems to be a sweetheart and Jenn cracks me up. LOL!

    15. wow, who is better than you to write such romantic scenes, I loved everything about this chapter and I know that the second one is going to be mind blowing as it follows their beautiful performance. 22. ok whats up? where ya hiding?! we can’t have Bette outside in the rain all by herself…even though we know Tina’s heading in that direction…these guys are at a stand still one in the rain and one on the way…lol…….excellent my dear!!!
