“It certainly has made it more….interesting.”

“Interesting is one way of putting it. I’m sorry Kate, I have to make a phone call. I have to make sure that Bette has done something that she said she would do.”

“OK. I’ll let you get to it.” replied Kate smiling at the fact that Tina and Bette seemed to be communicating.

Tina walked away from Kate hoping to get a little bit of privacy. In one way she felt bad that she was checking up on Bette but she also knew that for her own peace of mind it was important that Bette kept some of her promises and this was a good a place to start as any. So she dialled Shane’s number.

“Hi Tina, how are you?”

“I’m good Shane, and you?”

“I’m OK. She went back to work, this morning. Early too, like she had a point to prove.”

“How did you know I was going to ask you that?” asked Tina, bemused.

“Bette called me yesterday, asking me to go to lunch with her, just the two of us. It was the first time we had spent any real time together since….well you know. Anyway, we talked for a long time about a lot of stuff, some of which concerned the fact that you were keen for her to go back to work. She told me that she had said that she would go back today and that you would probably be calling me to make sure that happened, so when I saw your name on my caller display I knew that was what you wanted to know.” replied Shane.

“How is she doing?”

“She seemed a little more like herself. More like the Bette I know, more focused on where she want to be. It was good to see her like that again. You know that she really wants to come over there and see you don’t you?”

“I know. That’s one of the reason why I wanted her to go back to work so that she wouldn’t have the time, but it’s funny though because, for once she actually took no for an answer…”

“Just when you didn’t want her to.” finished Shane.

“Yeah, it’s incredible really. I’ve never known her to be so patient and so willing to talk about things that we should have talked about months ago. I told her I still loved her.”
