    The Date part 2

    They looked each other in the eyes for minutes until the sound of a phone took them back to reality. Bette started to get up

     

    ‘Excuse me. I will take that and be back in a minute.’

     

    She walked over to the phone and took it.

     

    ‘Hello?…..Oh hey sweetie. How are you?…That is good to hear. I am good too….Of course I remember our date next weekend baby……Yeah sure I will bring everything and we will have a great time….. Don’t forget to pack a dress because I booked a room in a very nice hotel and I want to go to dinner with you…..You know that you look always beautiful to me sweetie….Okay I have to go now. I will pick you up on Friday… Have great week….I love you too. Okay bye.

     

    As Bette turned around she saw Tina walking with her jacket in hand to the door.

     

    ‘Hey where are you going?’

     

    ‘I think that phone call was obvious. And you didn’t even try to hide it. I thought you were different but….huh you know what? Forget it!’

     She turned around and made her way to the door.

     

     

    Bette grabbed Tina’s wrist just in time before she could leave and turned her around.

     

     

    ‘Tina please let me explain..’

     

    ‘Explain what Bette? That you lied to me? That you have some other girls at the side but I am the one you really really like?’ She said sarcastically

     

    ‘No it’s not what you think!’

     

    ‘Yeah sure. Of course not. Then tell me Bette…what is it?’

     

    ‘The girl on the phone…I do love her. Very much….’

     

    ‘Let go of me! I don’t want to hear any more of this!’

     

    ‘…but in an innocent way. She is my goddaughter!’

     

    ‘What?’

     

    ‘That was my goddaughter Hannah.’

     

    ‘But you said…’

     

     

     

    Tina looked at Bette in shock. All of a sudden she felt stupid and wanted to leave before she made a total fool of herself. Bette didn’t let go of her hand and led her slowly back to the couch. They sat down and Bette continued to explain because she realised how it must have sounded to Tina what she was saying on the phone.
