“See ya.” Alice said as she wrapped her arm around Dana’s. Shane doesn’t reply, her eyes look past Alice and Dana to where Carmen is standing at her car the hood popped open looking hatefully down at her red Camry.

“Hey guys could you do me a favor” Shane says pulling her attention away from Carmen and her car and back to the two women standing in front of her.

“Will make sure Jenny gets home safe.” Alice says knowingly. Shane smiles thankfully at her friend.

“Come on you little *****.” Alice says grabbing Jenny gently by the shoulders. Jenny stumbles in between Alice and Dana.

“I didn’t grab her *****, I cupped it, Dana.”

“I’m Alice, Jenny. Alice.”

“Oops.”

Laughing the three walk away to Dana’s car. Shane looks back over to where Carmen is standing still looking dejectedly at her car. She hesitates before walking over to help.

Shane approaches the side of the car.

“Hey.”

Carmen quickly looks past the hood at Shane.

“Hi.”

“What’s wrong with your car?’ Shane asks coming up to stand beside her. Carmen shakes her head hopelessly.

“I’ve got no idea, it just won’t crank.”

“Well um… mostly I specialize in hair…but I know how to check the oil…and I’m an excellent gas pumper.”

Carmen tilts her head to the side, smiling.

“I’m pretty ***** when it comes to anything else…but I can give you a ride home though.”

“No, it’s okay, I can keep trying to get my mom on the phone, if worst comes to worst I’ll call my brother, but I’m fine. You can go ho-

Shane cuts her off quickly.

“I’m not leaving you alone out here.” Carmen blushes and looks down at her feet.

“Um..”

“Because it’s not safe…at all.” Shane adds. Carmen looks up but doesn’t looks Shane in the eyes.

“Um..Okay.”

“Good. Get your stuff. I’ll put this down.” Shane says as she closes the hood. Carmen reaches into the car and pulls out her purse.

“Don’t forget to lock it.”

“I won’t” Carmen says still smiling at Shane’s thoughtfulness. They cross the parking lot where Shane’s Jeep is parked. Climbing in Shane puts Seether’s Disclaimer Two into the CD player.

“What is that?” Carmen asks looking at the CD player oddly.
