Unusual Meeting – Chapter 9
Bette glanced over at Tina and could see that she too was miles away in her thoughts. “Hey you, what are you thinking about?”
“Everything that happened tonight. You rescued me again” Tina said as she grinned at Bette.
“Just doin’ my job ma’am” Bette tried to lighten the mood.
“Oh really?”
“Yeah. I consider it my place to take care of you. Isn’t that what love is about? Taking care of each other?”
“Yes, it is.” Tina’s mood turned very serious. “I don’t know what would have happened if you hadn’t shown up when you did, I …”
Bette saw her fighting back tears. “T, baby I know you’ve been through a lot tonight. Try to focus on the fact that you’re safe now.” She tightened her arms around Tina and tried her best to chase her fears away. “I love you” she whispered to her.
Bette woke up in the middle of the night to Tina’s cries for help and thrashing around. “No, stop” Tina was yelling in her sleep.
“T, sweetheart, wake up. It’s a dream, you’re having a bad dream.” Bette held Tina by her arms as she woke her up. Tina opened her eyes and looked at Bette. She looked scared and she was breathing hard.
“God Bette, it was so real. Roberts came after me with that knife.”
Bette just held her close and stroked her hair. “It was a dream T, you’re safe.”
The next morning, Bette suggested they take a walk at the park she had seen nearby. As they strolled down the walkway hand in hand, Bette started the conversation. “I was thinking I’d drive you to work today and then come pick you up tonight. Is that ok?”
“I’d like that. Then tomorrow when you’re gone, I guess I’m back on my own again.”
Bette was quiet. She couldn’t stay. Well she might be able to arrange another day or two, but eventually she would have to return to her city, her job, the other part of her life.
“Bette, would you teach me some defensive tactics?” Tina asked.
“Defensive tactics?”
“Isn’t that what you call it when you learn how to defend yourself?”

That was definitely an “OH SHIT!” moment. Learning some self-defense moves is never a bad idea, even really basic ones since in a real situation there’s no time to get fancy.
Glad Tina is safe. When getting off late at night always walk with someone…never take any chances. Love this story please post soon.
