Walking After You ch.16
"I think we really need to talk about some stuff, but you’re getting tired, aren’t you?" Tina put a hand to Bette’s cheek and tried to smile.
"I’m not tired at all." Bette answered while trying to sit up in bed. The jostling of her knee made her yelp.
"No, no. You should rest. Here, take this." Tina held up the pain pill and tried to get up to get a glass of water.
"Tina, wait. I don’t want to put this off another day. And I need to keep a clear head. I’ll take it later.. after… okay?" Bette tried to be convincing. She knew in her heart that if they put off talking one more minute, she would lose her nerve again.
Tina sat back down and sighed. "Okay. So. What?"
"Why don’t I start?" Bette swallowed nervously. When Tina nodded, she licked her lips and gathered her thoughts.
"Tina, what I said about us… you know that’s not really how I want to feel. It’s true that over the past few days we’ve had some trouble communicating," Bette shook her head slowly, "mostly because of me. But I’ve realized that I really need to tell you the things I’ve been feeling and thinking."
"It’s not all your fault. I know I haven’t been around a lot…"
"Nonetheless, I had a real difficulty telling you about how I was feeling."
"Alright Bette," Tina answered gently, "can you tell me now?"
Bette looked around the room, "Tina, do you see that window over there?"
Tina nodded.
"That window has been a friend to me over the past months. But I hate the sight of it right now. It reminds me that I did not turn to you with my thoughts and fears. That I tortured myself for months thinking things that probably have no basis."
"What were you thinking about?"
"Night after night I would look out that window and wish that everything was different."
Tina flinched. Bette noticed it but forged on. "I went to see a therapist yesterday." At Tina’s surprised look, Bette rallied. "Yeah, I went to see a therapist because I could not bring myself to talk to you about… stuff."
Tina turned away, feeling a welling of sadness and anger.

All she has to say….is “TINA I am afraid, afraid you will leave me” thats all she needs to say and it will open up a world of thought, love an action and then maybe she will feel she does not have to get into her skin but on her skin………forever….
Great chapter even tho The talk didn’t go well. I am glad u post daily cos I love n look forward to this story:))
So… that went well. No one said what they meant and everyone’s feelings were hurt. They still love each other though, and at least they know it. That’s the base they have to work from, and it’s a good foundation. Keep up the good work 7, I know they’ll get there, Bette’s neuroses and Tina’s fears and frustrations aside. I love this story. Thanks for posting. cheers, 7! :)
Great update. They really are bad in talking it out but maybe since they love each other it will make them come thru this rough patch. thank you for this story.
That was tough and it may continue to be but communication is key. PPS
it’s a first step…it might not be perfect but at least they are still talking and together
Well, that was as welcome as pulling out my two front teeth with a crescent wrench. I enjoyed their “talk” about as much as they did, which is testimony to the verisimilitude of your writing. I really like your alternate take on Bette and Tina’s personalities. An insecure Bette and a rather, distant? Tina is a switch-up for sure. They’ve got work to do, and forgiveness to grant to each other. Yes, it’s going slow between them. They could be quaint soul mates, completing each others’ sentences, but where would be the story in that? I’m really enjoying their pain (forgive me). Thanks!
Poor B&T the talk didn’t go well but hope the next one will be ok. Please post more, thanks!
They seriously need to try and talk again. I think they both need to tell each other about their own upbringing and about their past; that would clarify a lot of things. The reason Tina hates therapists and why Bette is so insecure. This was an outstanding update. PPS.
tangled up in words – & feelings :0 now even im confused as to what bette wants from tina – come here/go away? thats a very tall order for anyone. maybe a little more patience & practice saying what they really mean – if at first you dont succeed, try & try again – you can do it bette – thanks 7pm and PPS
Well, that didn’t go too well but hopefully the love they have for each other will get them through this rough time. Maybe they should both go to the therapist together. If Bette was in an environment where she felt safe she might be able to express her feelings better. Tina is being so patient and loving but if this continues she’s gonna break down. :(
Well, that did NOT go well at all. They should try going to the therapist together. PPS
so real, so funny and yet real. i have a big sappy smile on my face. more plz.
He 7PM, Thank you for another emotional rollercoaster ride of a chapter.Bette and Tinaa are really at cross-purposes right now.Yes, the love and adoration is keeping them together as they work through their concerns.Comunication is key at this time. Problem is that they aren’t really listening to each other yet. There is too much guilt and self-deprication. They need to give each other space and then try again. Maybe writing their thoughts down in letter form and then swapping them might be better right now. I think they need some clarity. Couples therapy will help if they are both open to the idea and able to talk through everything in a safe and understanding environment.I hoep they try again soon. I want the loving BnT back.Much graitude from Your Loyal Fan.
