What Becomes of the Broken : “At Last” (Finale)
It took nearly four months for Helena’s financial situation to be repared. She shelled out one million to Catherine Rothberg and departed with her nine million. A month later, her first goal was to buy a new house. Both she and Bette, for they would be sharing this house, picked out a beach front home. It was similar to the one she owned before. It had room enough for the three kids Helena and Bette shared between them. Helena then invested in Alice’s website. It was the least she could do for the friend who did the most for her. Half of the rest of the money she invested in a new movie studio. This was something that she did best; reviewing movie scripts and choosing what movies would be hits. The other half she invested in a new gallery with Bette. The Porter-Peabody Gallery was already making money in its early stage.
"This house is beautiful, Helena." Kit said. The entire family, with the exception of Tina, was over for a housewarming party.
"Thank you, but the compliments should all go to your lovely sister. She’s the one who noticed it and made it beautiful."
"Speaking of my sister, you better treat her right."
"I have no intentions on doing otherwise." Kit gave Helena a hug.
"Well, welcome to the wonderful world of the Porter family."
Meanwhile, Bette was chatting it up with Shane.
"You know, Shane, now that you have Shay with you, you should think about getting a new home."
"Yeah, I’ve been thinking about it, but I’m not sure I can afford it. I mean, I’m not making too much money and I have to feed Shay so…"
"So, you can take my old house off of my hands."
"Bette, I couldn’t…"
"Yes you could. Just pay me rent every now and then and I’ll keep the lights on for you. It’s simple, and it would be my biggest honor."
Shane grabbed Bette in an embrace. She even, momentarily, lifted Bette in the air. Shane was strong, though from her looks, it would seem otherwise.
"Bette, I could kiss you right now if I didn’t think Helena would kill me. Thank you, so much."
"It is no problem, Shane. You are like my little sister, I couldn’t imagine having something that you need and not giving it to you." They continued to hug each other closely until Helena came over to them.

Nice!!! Thanks for the story.
One of my most favorite songs for a wonderful story ending and a new life beginning. Another fave is “A Song For You” sung by Donny Hathaway. He sings it the best. The lyric that is brilliant….. “I love you in a place where there’s no space or time”
I’ve really enjoyed this story. Thanks for writing it.
Ahh ash that was so pretty and I love Etta James song At Last, you should listen to Chrisitna Aguilera’s version too. Gotta love Alice liked how she summed up both of thier lives when it came to their past loves and the real deal!!!
a fabulous ending to a fantastic story! thank u!
Alice’s radio monologue and “At Last” were an inspired way to close out this terrific story. I’ll miss it but I’m looking forward to your next Belena yarn.
